Title: Estate vs Saloon
Post by: Hudson on 27 April 2016, 20:29:20
Ok i am looking at two Elites, both similar miles, both meant to be very good condition, fsh on both the estate is black and the saloon is champagne......i dont need an estate, oh the saloon is a 2000 and a 3.0 litre and the estate is a 2003 and a 3.2 litre, so any advantages with either ?

Black ones are faster, and estate is better for everything  ;D

Saloon vs Estate personal choice really, Omega Estates are amazing load carriers with the back seats folded flat and pretty much drive like saloons with them up.

3.0 vs 3.2, 3.2 have a few more BHP, nothing to write home about, personally I think the 3.0 are better on performance when really pushed hard. 3.0 can easerly be brought to 3.2 power. 3.0 a lot more economical / better MPG. 3.2 were only available with Auto box's (except Police) and a 3.2 Auto can really hammer the wallet on fuel. 3.0 had the option of Autobox or Manual so another mpg saver.

Depends what rocks your boat really.

Choose on history and condition...

And I include MoT history in that, as it can paint quite a picture of how a car has previously been looked after  ;)

It's a known fact, written in stone, that black one's are faster, but white ones are faster still.

Yes I have a 3.2 estate in very rare silver.

Assuming equal condition, then the black 2003 3.2 Elite estate - without even thinking about it!
A rarer car, better colour and my preferred choice of engine.
But when you see them, if there's a noticeable difference in bodywork condition, perhaps go for the better body......
But still leaning towards the black estate.......

Estate vs Saloon - very much personal choice.

Had both, as said "Omega Estates are amazing load carriers"

TBH, a Black 3.2 03 Elite Estate is a rare find, especially in good nick, and if I had a budget to spend on another Omega and compare that with a Champagne saloon, the Estate would be a no brainier even if double the price.  :y

I too favour estates, but check on the Road Tax rates, I think a 2003 V6 is a little more expensive than a 2000 V6, about £35 per year more if I remember correctly, so maybe not that significant in the overall scheme of things.

Agree, i think its about £290 a year which although a lot compared to my 30 skoda diesel, the car is utter luxury.

Builder by trade so estate every time.
the amount of cap you can get in the back of these things is quite amazing, that's why I am on my second one.
Just put about 20 small bags of hardcore in the back this evening which should be a smooth ride in the morning.
Whith a bit of luck, if I hit a big bump it might turn my EML light off :y

I reckon with 20 bags of hardcore in the back, and a good hump at speed, probably will take out the EML light out....... and the wiring,....and the O2 Sensors, .....and the exhaust system,.....and the.... ;D
