Marketing entrapment, I reckon, they induce you with one or two bargains, then once on board play bouncy balls with there normal 'RRP' against Discount Codes.

Still not bad though, and as you say gets delivered to your door for free, plus with most folk not having access to Trade Club now. I still reckon that if you go into your local Motor Factor with your 'Serious Face' on you could strike a deal for day to day discount.

Of course they are not losing anything. They are making a profit. They aren't stupid.

You are just paying fairly standard prices for low quality items.  So they definitely aren't the daft ones ;)

Independent reviews suggest it meets modern standards of protection.

I imagine a modern 5-30 fully synthetic oil would meet more stringent requirements than GM 10-40 semi, which was developed at some point during the dark ages. :)

Triple QX 5W/40 & Triple QX 5W/30

On 9th March 2015 these products were reported to VLS as the Technical Data Sheets were not compliant with ACEA specifications regarding A3/B4 and C3. These specifications, in their latest iterations, are mutually exclusive of each other such that the dual claim cannot be met by a single lubricant.  The dual claim could cause confusion to consumers with vehicles requiring either a catalyst or particulate trap compatible oil or those needing a high performance oil suitable for direct injection engines which could therefore result in an inappropriate lubricant being used.

The Named Party, Euro Car Parts Ltd cooperated fully with VLS and responded swiftly and positively to correct all non-compliant claims relating to the products concerned.

On 11th February 2016 VLS concluded its six month review of the case in line with its stated processes. All changes agreed by the Named Party with VLS had been maintained.

The products were therefore in compliance at the six month review, and the case closed.

Basically it was found to be unsuitable, for DIESEL , doesn't affect petrol.

Why are you all trying to find fault with anything from ecp, O I know because it's not genuine. If every part they sold was inferior, they would goes out of business..
I have not had a problem with any parts from ecp,, yet.

And what are you implying by that comment? Thought we were on here to try and help each other and give the best advise we can..  You must be hiding in a closet somewhere because there are a lot of companies that sell shit and are still in business.  I've never bought from ECP so can't make any personal comment about them other than information I've found from other sources.  And the fact I like using "genuine" is that a problem.

Not sure what your beef is with genuine, clearly you think its crap. And in some cases, it is.  That's the advantage of a community like OOF, we can have collective experience of whats good, whats good but too pricey, and where after market parts offer better value.

Particularly with ECP, its known they sell a lot of substandard items at standard prices. It is also known that they sell fake goods - and too often for it to be mistakes. The oil shite above shows they simply want to buy the poorest product they can find, rebadge to sound like quality, and sell at mainstream prices to those daft enough to buy into the marketing. Making a very good profit in the process.

Will they go out of business for selling shite? Unlikely, because the old adage of a fool and his money are easily parted, in in the current namby pamby state we're in, they have a big pool of fools to pick from.

TBH, people use ECP and ebay out of laziness - an email falls in mailbox offering a never-to-be-repeated (until tomorrow) deal on some substandard parts...  ...classic retail technique we seem to have become blind to.

I do not have a problem with genuine parts, I use a mix of genuine, pattern and second hand, there are certain parts, that I will only buy genuine sensors and brake pads.
I know that a lot of members have tried different parts, and reported back there findings, and genuine can be best, but, so can pattern, it is a argument, that will go on forever.

And as for peoples dislike for using companies like ecp, and german-Swedish, or even the local factor, that is personal choice, I don't like shopping in Sainsbury, but that's my choice.

Tend to use sensible mixture of genuine VX, pattern and used parts.

Last Saturday the tailgate struts on SWMBOs Estate suddenly failed.  Non critical item, so Sat night ordered two pattern from Ebay seller (good feedback, company address and seemed to specialise in boot/bonnet/tailgate struts) for £12 pair delivered. Arrived this am (obviously not sent out to Tues as Mon bank hol), and after investing 5 mins of my time this evening tailgate working as it should.  Struts came complete with end fittings and spring clips, and were direct replacement and of good quality.  As we will be replacing Estate soon, sure they will outlive time in our ownership.

I use ECP for about 35% of the parts I need. Recently I needed a new rear wiper motor for a 1 series, second hand on ebay was about £90, new Valeo from ECP was £68ish. However, when servicing a Supercharged L322, everything came from a LR specialist I use, the genuine parts worked out at about £15 more.
Granted, with my profession I do have cause to buy more, and for differing vehicles...but as suggested on here, ECP does have its place. I've never had a problem with them.

I use CarParts4Less now and again, as generally they're a couple of quid cheaper than ECP.  :y

When I did my head gaskets CP4L had a set of 16 Elring head bolts for about half the price of anywhere else!  :y  "What could possibly go wrong?" thought I....  ::)

When they came there were only 8 bolts, but when I phoned up to complain and pointed out that the photo showed 16 bolts, they sent out another 8 bolts without quibbling!  :y  The photo on the listing was changed soon after to show only 8 bolts!  ;D

I know that a lot of members have tried different parts, and reported back there findings, and genuine can be best, but, so can pattern, it is a argument, that will go on forever.
:y - exactly, and that's our collective advantage, is knowing whats good and bad from each supplier :).  But you frequent come across as being anti-genuine, when that's clearly not the case...

My delivery is a day late but they text me to say it is in transit for delivery today . This delivery is for the bogof cleaning stuff . Just as well its not needed until xmas  ;D If you scroll down to the bottom of the main ecp web page you will see an 80% off offer , just having a look now  :y

Blimey Steve, you find £20.00 down the back of the sofa, seem to be buying the entire, winters stock. ;D

I think the lot came in under 20 quid but the packaging and transport costs must have been 50 quid or more  ;D DHL from london  :o
I doubt ECP (or any other large mail order outfit) are paying more than £3 or £4 quid for a decent sized (ie, single man lift) parcel.  Don't worry, they are still making significant profit from you.

Nor me ,I use them a lot :y

I was going to buy the BOGOF 10/40 semi oil plus an extra 10% off with a discount code, but firstly they rejected the discount code and when I proceeded to the checkout, there was no mention of the 2-for-1 offer either.
I therefore did not complete the order and then emailed me as a result, asking why - so I told them.
They replied, offering the same oil and no BOGOF, so I told them again!
Today, they offered me a "special discount for me alone of 15%" to complete my order, so I tried again.
STILL no mention of 2-for-1, so I did not complete the order and told them why - again.
I wonder what will happen next?

Ron.

you had to enter the bogoff code freeoil3, 4 or 8, think it has expired now.

you can't have 10% and bogoff i.e. only one code at a time per order.

hence i bought the oil and had to put in a separate order for a filter to get 10% off. free shipping you'd think they'd combine them but no, oil arrive dtoday filter likely tomorrow.

Many manufacturers state similar numbers, but it's never been good for long term durability. £20 worth of oil twice a year is far more economical than a new turbo(or engine caused by turbo failure if you're really unlucky) at 80,000 miles for example.

I'm sticking with main dealer services for the first 4 years. They're not that expensive and it preserves the 4 year warranty. I agree that may cause problems later in the car's life but, as she only does 10,000 miles per annum and we never keep a car more than five years, it will be someone else's problem.

I believe this figure is based on plenty of long distance travel.

If most of your mileage consists of 'taking the whippet for a walk' then the oil should be changed more frequently.

Is that normal retail price, TB, or with trade card - I don't have one.
Also, was that constipated or ready-mixed?
If constipated, can you see where I went wrong, there?  :(

trade club. And being trade club, that's delivered price.

Was your antifreeze ready-mixed?

Braintree and Maldon used to accept Trade club car, but I believe its just Underwoods Colchester in North Essex now.
TC anti-freeze isn't the ready mixed crap by the way.
Imo, the stuff your getting sounds like a reasonable deal.

Just looked up the price of a pattern (Arnott) air spring for the back of my Merc from ECP. I've just had one fitted for less than their pre discount price. Why don't they just sell stuff at a reasonable price in the first place rather than offering stuff at various discounted price deals?

Because (to quote a well respected figure in the retail industry) "the British public are stupid", when he was talking about Boxing Day sales.
