Title: cancelling a BT account
Post by: Terbs on 29 April 2016, 12:06:29
Just cancelled a BT account. Not too happy with the initial reception, seemed a bit hostile.
I said 'I would like to close a BT account'. The reply was ..'And why would you want to close an account ?' said in a hostile tone.
I said....'Because the account holder is dead!!!!!!'.
There was a moments silence....Then....'Oh (pause).....I am sorry to hear that'.

I do think that they should show a little more compassion, as the number I rang was the one advertised on their bereavement section.

I recently had a variation of this when my FIL died in November.

"I need to cancel a BT account please"

"Are you the account holder?"

"No"

"I need to speak to  the account holder"

"Sadly not possible as the account holder passed away in November"

" I need to speak with the account holder"

I like to believe the line was poor. :-\

Had lots of problems with BT left them about 3 years ago, had  several calls from them afterwards trying to win me back, made it very plain to them in the end that I would never deal with them again, similar experience with British Gas  when I dumped them.
