Title: 3.0 V6 estate prop shaft
Post by: andrewrobuk on 04 May 2016, 12:06:52
Hi all

Just in the process of changing my diff for updated one and have had a whine/rumbling noise for a while now also. Noticed before this that the prop shaft bearing didn't look great either, the rubber boot next to it had split and the splined section was visible through it. Decided to change the prop shaft also for a used one which supposedly had less miles etc and seemed better condition. Come to replace it and noticed that comparing the the one I'm taking off, it is shorter by around 20 cm without measuring, so I'm thinking I've got one for a saloon which has been sent.
Can't seem to find any part numbers on either, but there is a yellow sticker on each one. The one coming off has the letters 'LL' and the one that I was going to put in but not now not has 'LM' on it.
Either way it simply not right, but can anyone confirm if those letters are the difference between estate and saloon before I go back and speak with the seller.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I thought estate and saloon were same length? If I'm right on that could the different length prop shafts be for manual and auto versions?

As above... Rear half should be interchangeable  :y

Likewise the bearing...

Thanks for the replies and help

I did have a thought afterwards that it the difference could have been between auto/manual instead of saloon/estate. I've had it lying a while until managing to find the time to look at it. My fault as should have at least checked it when I got it.

Yeah your right, the rear half and bearing are the same though. That gives me something to look at again tomorrow. Thanks Harris   :y
