Title: Fault code MAF circuit
Post by: onion on 13 May 2016, 09:46:04

2003 Omega 2.2 saloon, automatic, petrol

Hi, wonder if anyone can help with this one.

Last night I changed leaking cam cover gasket (oil was leaking on plugs causing misfire), cleaned breathers etc., also
removed throttle body, cleaned with carb. cleaner and re assembled.  I used the recommended guides posted on this website.

Am now getting engine management light (engine / emissions symbol).  Am reading the following codes with my reader :

Current fault:   P0100 - powertrain mass or volume air flow circuit  -  this is a new fault code, did not have before cleaned
 throttle body assembly.
Pending fault:  P1700 - power train  -  had this previously.

Reader also still listing following codes (no warning indication so may be just historical:  P1555 powertrain and P0130 02
sensor  circuit (bank 1 sensor 1).

The new fault code P0100 obviously relates to the MAF, I had to disconnect plug to get throttle body off car.  I have checked
that I re connected the MAF sensor plug and seems ok. There was no fault code relating to this before I disconnected and
cleaned throttle body assembly. Could I have damaged the MAF ?

Strangely, when I cancel the fault code with my reader, the warning light on dash changes from the engine (emissions
symbol to the car / spanner symbol and stays on). When ignition is switched off and back on again the dash warning lamp
with engine / emissions symbol comes back on again.

Car starts fine, seems to run and drive well and ticks over at constant revs (just under 1000 RPM).

Hope that my explanation of the problem is understandable, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is the reading of the MAF at idle?

  Thanks for your reply.

My diagnostic readings were taken with the car running at idle.

What were the live data readings for the MAF? Ideally in kg/hr (as my maths is flakey ;D)

Just to update my situation with the MAF.

Found a second hand (genuine Siemens) MAF from breakers for £20.

Fitted it yesterday eve, dashboard EML warning light now out and now idles as normal.

I took the car for a test drive and seems ok so far.  Hopefully problem solved  ;D

  Thanks for input.
