Title: Wi Fi Range Extender
Post by: Varche on 21 May 2016, 17:30:56
An unexpected but understandable consequence of adding metal mesh and 3 inches of concrete upstairs has resulted in Wifi deadspots downstairs.

Anyone recommend a good value WiFi range extender that I can plug in downstairs to improve things please?. Nothing fancy or difficult to set up.

*ALL* range extenders are rubbish. *ALL* will reduce your speed by the nature of how they work.

Before getting one, investigate all other options (a cable to a 2nd Access Point, mains extenders, anything) before using a range extender. They really are a last resort.

Oh crikey. I had just got fired up.

When you say a cable to a second access point.... Do you mean a second router? I was thinking that before reading about WiFi range extenders.

No, an Access Point - a device that allows wifi connections, look very similar to router, but no routing ability. If you have an old router with wifi, that may work as well.
