For a few years, certain switchgear in my Omega has become a bit sort-of melted.
It's like the top layer of plastic on some buttons has softened. In the summer, they'd be a bit sticky.
I'm wondering if other owners have had the same and what they used to clean them.
It's worst on the four window switches on driver's door. I've tried cleaning them with various products, including magic eraser / doctor power but it doesn't come off. I have to scrape it off with a knife to make it a bit better.
Perhaps white spirit or meths might clean them up?

No, its the soft coating finish. It happens to all of them. That's why there is a demand for perfect ones, and no demand for ones where its started to peel/flake off.

Velvet / Soft Touch Finnish, nice when its new but it seems to absorb moisture over time and peels off with wear. Few members have rubbed them down to the bare Plastic. :-\
I did look into getting some door panels refurbed some time back at a local place to me that does that sort of thing, but by the time the stuff was stripped down, pretreated and resprayed started to make it all a bit of a non starter.

For the door cards on the old Turbo Weasel rubbed them down to bare plastic (which handily is the same colour as the top layer) then sprayed piano black. However, after a few goes with the wet n dry, the semi-sheen finish didn't look half bad. Switches, however, are more of an issue, as TB says, keeping an eye out for decent ones should always be on the 'wants list' at the scrappy, even if you don't want them, one day these'll be unobtainable.
Best cure is to get a superior PFL, with their hard plastic non-coated switches. :)

I think grease / oil dissolves that rubber coating quickly, so pressing buttons after eating a bag of crisps will cause quicker degradation.

I bought De-Solv-It last night from B&Q which seems to be recommended by many people online.
However, following the instructions it's VERY poor at taking off this soft coating melted stuff.

Meths is a LOT better. Unfortunately, due to vigorous rubbing it also began taking off the whole coating, leaving some parts showing the white plastic underneath.
I don't think I'll bother.
