Talking today to the chap I posted about a while ago who has a 2.6 "daily driver"along with a F/L and M/F/L stood on his drive.The M/F/L [a 2.5]he's on about getting rid of and reckons only thing wrong with it despite being stood for above a year is that he has to manually release the gear selector from "park" as it doesn't do it from the break pedal.However talking of his 2.6 he says that around town he's getting 25mpg and on a run at motorway speeds he's seeing 38mpg[he's still complaining of its heavy fuel consumption :o]Are these figures achievable?Or is he spinning a yarn?

My 3.0l estate averages about 25mpg in normal daily use, which is mainly round town. Over 400miles out of a tankful of fuel is easily acheivable on the motorway, and doesn't require driving like a granny.
38mpg does sound very high though!

My 3.0 struggled to get 19mpg around town-the 2.5 was a little better but nowhere near 38mpg on a run-more like 29-both autos.

2.6 Auto around london gets me about 22mpg, and a motorway run about 33 - 36mpg, my older 3.0 Manual used to do 27mpg London and 38mpg on Motorway, my 3.0 Auto would do 24mpg London and again around 38 on Motorway, should add both the 3.0 were Chipped).
The 3.2's Ive had seem to do, Auto 19 - 28mpg, Manual 23 to 33mpg.
Ive always maintained that 3.0 is the best V6 all rounder for economy and performance (especially if Chipped) and has more top end grunt over the 3.2's.

The worst I ever had was 16.6 when towing in torrential rain to Devon/Cornwall
Best was about 35 driving south on a quiet Sunday morning with cruise set to about 70

Around 24 mpg average, most I've seen was 30 mpg which was a few years ago now, mid 20s seems the norm now.

Around 16mpg round town on a 2.5 Auto. That's with an un-ruddy-traceable vac leak, but cotton wool and love lavished over everything else mechanical. Climbs to about 35, just nudging 40pmg, on a long, cruising run. Display reading 19.3mpg at present, that's about 80% round town, the rest countryside/longer stretch. Average speed 17mph, if that helps.
My TD ran at about 20-22mpg average

My 2.5 Manual used to get 38 every week on the commute.

If I really REALLY try I can just about get 32/34 on a decent run. By "try" I mean mostly slow/middle motorway lane and feather light right foot
Normally around 26, flooring it you don't wanna know
My last 2.6 Auto. I could just about manage 35 at best
PS: This all assumes that the calculated consumption figure is correct. I do zero it at the start of a long trip.

AH, yes, in partial response to Mister Rog, the on-screen mpg average is currently 19.2mpg, however the real world comes in at closer to 16/mid-teens. Longer runs, again, calculated myself at mid 20s.

I never, ever got anything better then 33mpg out of my old petrol 2.5 manual and that was a steady 75 coming back from Redich when I first bought it :(
Must say though that i've been playing with my new toy over the past couple of days around town.
After 38 miles, i've just got 27.2 mpg (LPG) using the fill / fill method which i'm amazed at considering the best I ever managed with the slush box was 16 mpg around town :(
With it still having the 3.9 diff, it will sit in 5th at just over 1000 revs so well happy with it tbh :y :y
I even managed 22 mpg (LPG) when I would normally struggle to see 17 mpg over 200 miles mixed town, lots of playing :-X :-X, and dragging the pikey van around for 40 of those 200 ::)

As with everything a compromise, given the vast amount of town driving I do I become tempted to fit a 'quicker' diff, but then knowing when we do bomb down the motorway, we'd be doing 3000rpm at 70 or whatever silly amount it is..
I know the best option in terms of everything - mpg plug acceleration - is fit a manual box. To be honest that's on the cards if we get the Royale. Off topic, but a later Carlton GSi 12v in that, plus manual box and in a 1300kg shell that thing would be a right barrel (roll) of laughs. :)
