Title: Eating late in MK
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 12 June 2016, 09:55:46
Since Woman and I are arriving late in MK next Friday, perhaps half nine or so... any recommendations for a nice meal? Chinese... pub grub... Italian... American diner? If its within staggering distance of the Novotel,  so much the better!

I've never been as a grownup - I just know it has many roundabouts...

I don't really know MK, but that's always been my impression. Lots of confusing roundabouts, that all look the same, with impatient people driving too fast, who all assume that you should know exactly where you're going.

I worked for a company in the Kingston area and drove around MK and got the same impression.

If you can't beat them join them was my answer ;D ;D

For late night eating, you're probably looking at the Theatre District (between the John Lewis end of the shopping centre and the Xscape building (the big tall, sloping building, also known as the snow dome), or The Hub (might be The Hub:MK) which is between the M&S end of the shopping centre and the train station.

I'll google where the novatel is, probably near The Hub, as that's where the hotel area is.

Oh F me, the Novatel is the one at Linford Wood?  Absolutely SFA around there, so you'll have to drive/taxi.  So the world is your oyster really. MK has just about everything you could want.

As you're driving, if you want somewhere with free parking (both The Hub and the Theatre District are pay & display, and be careful of different charges for different colour parking places, as some are very steep), try the new food outlets at The Stadium:MK, which has your Nandos/Chimicanga/TGI type places.

If you fancy pub grub type places, the pub (name escapes me) near Morrisons at Westcroft, the Windmill opposite Caldicote or the large place on Willen lake are all that type of place.

Try to keep off some of the 1970s housing estates, as a few of them are quite rough areas, and one or 2 are nearly no-go areas after dark.

Thinking about it, there *may* be a pub very close, on same road. Never been in though.  TBH, I only pass that way to use the BP opposite the Novatel.

I bought my car from Mk 12 months ago. I've only just managed to find my way home.

MK is a charmless place. :-\

If using the car it's a straight run down Saxon Street on to Saxon Gate and then you are in central MK. As TB said, watch the parking zones. There are a few free spaces (3 hours max stay) very close to the outdoor area by Debenhams etc but it's pot luck really. MK is a giant grid made up of horizontal and vertical roads, how can anyone possibly get lost or confused.  ::)
If using the food outlets at the Stadium area, there should be plenty of parking as the retail outlets will be shut, depending on what you call late.
