Title: Air con query??
Post by: horsecow on 15 June 2016, 22:41:11
As some of you know I've been tinkering with a 3.2 elite that I bought cheap with possible cam belt problems. I've now got new cam belt fitted, new water pump, new aux belt and I'm in process of getting everything else back in place. My problem is that I had to remove the air con pump to clean the pulley properly. It's now refitted but I'm worried about what will happen once I start the motor. I'm assuming there will be no gas or coolant left in the air con system so do I need to get this sorted before I start the motor or what are my options?

All help much appreciated, sorry if this is a silly question.

No you don't need to worry. Lots of cars lose the gas in their air con plus the compressor will not run anyway unless you turn on the air con inside the car.

Thanks Duke, better to ask the question than take a chance and do damage! Hopefully I'll get her going tomorrow evening or friday and if the aircon is the only other thing to fix I'll be happy

The system has a pressure switch and won't allow the clutch on the compressor to engage unless it's up to pressure  :y

I would have it filled sooner rather than later though or the seals can dry out requiring replacement.

Thanks Steve. Once I get the motor running I'll get it topped up/refilled stright away
