Seeing the news tonight about John and Ann Darwin, starting a 6 year sentence for their elaborate hoax, got me to thinking.
Would you, facing dire financial consequences set out to create an elaborate hoax that would even fool your own family, in order to gain life assurance money?
My feeling would be that although one might be tempted by the rewards, to actually involve and keep the truth from ones own family members would be too much consider.
I for one could never, ever consider keeping the truth from my immediate family. :o :o

Nah, they deserve to rot.... >:(

To keep a lie like that going you have to have an excellent memory ---- if it wasn't for the fact that the label in my underpants has my name on I would even forget I was called St. Michael :o

callous and stupid. >:(..............did the sons really not know ? :-/

I think a far greater punishment would be to not let them back in the country, I would hazard a guess one or both of them now require some medical treatment and can't afford it abroad, so come back having lived a life of luxury, get banged up, get a discharge on medical grounds and then sponge off the state for the rest of there lives. >:(
The same should have been done for ronnie biggs, he only came back for medical reasons. And why have we let ronnie biggs son into the country, he was not born here and has never lived here before poor old daddy came back to get fixed on the nhs. >:(
Rant over

The ins. Co. will wear the loss, we'll keep them until thier release (probably within 3 yrs.) & thereafter.I belive the properties were mortgaged to the hilt so no revenue to be generated there.
To answer the original "would you?" question, no. Being unmarried killing myself for my life ins. would be futile to say the least!!! I subscribe to a life ins. policy but it's purely to clear anything owed so whoever i leave my inheritance to cops the lot.
-
i wouldnt "kill myself" to claim life insurance, mrs bitz however might kill me to claim on it. :o ;D

First of all -- I apologise to Dusty for subverting the thread -- can't help myself :-[
To be serious for as long as I can manage:
No, I would never do anything like that --- just looking at many others who have tried similar scams in the past --- the vast majority get caught out at sometime or other. The ones that haven't yet been caught are having nervous breakdowns with worry !!!!!

never say never..........that's been my philosophy.......
Who knows what was going through tier mind when they decided to hatch this plan, i have been following this and can only imagine they were in a dire place in order to come up with something that would cause untold grief to close family members.
That said if i had to protect my family, if this was the only way i could see of giving them the roof over their head i had always promised them and the security that i felt they deserved then yes i may embark on something like this......
Do i agree with what they have done? No, but yet that contradicts what i have just said i would potentially do, who knows what we would do if we felt our family were threatened?

I say dump him in a canoe in the middle of the Atlantic and if he can paddle home he's a free man >:(.

They took a risk ,it went t#ts up and now they have a new home for the next 6 years ( about 3 in reality ) .That's life. :-? :-?

There is the rub Three years tops. But they will be let out well before that as there is a shortage of prisons so it isn't too bad for all that money. Free Board and lodge, colour TV no tax, health treatment. I wonder if they will get a double bed? ;D ;D
I do however feel sorry for their car. It was shown on TV in a car park so now will be fair game to be stolen and ringed!
