These are wars that aren't declared and often denied, that have no troops in the conventional sense and some fronts may only exist in cyberspace. These are also wars that we don't know if we are winning or losing and we have no insight into if or when they will ever end. This is the ugly and uncertain face of 21st century warfare.
I have taken three stories from the last week to illustrate different aspect of this:
Social media live streaming of an attack and double murder in France, where the perpetrator uses his crime as a recruitment video:

Hybrid war takes many forms, on many fronts. like in Euro 2016:

Cyber warfare can affect anybody who does anything which is of interest to another country:

With Putin saying that is okay for his lads to pop over to France for a bit of a ruck and some Russian minister saying that they are representing Russia and doing there country proud, it does make you wonder ;)
Also talking to a mate who's lads have follow England pretty much everywhere over the last 10 years.
The word on the streets is that these little showdowns are very well planned with many Russians turning up in colours wearing Gum shields and UFC gloves with the express intention of showing the Europeans who is the boss :(
Totally different to the normal dickheads who go for a ruck with the so called ultras of every other nation >:(

I've seen it said on a few different news sites now that the Russian lads are fit, trained and probably wear uniforms to work. :-X :-\

Yeah. I think it's terrible that our yobs, who have been disgracing our reputation for donkeys years by smashing up the local hostelries and terrifying the locals, should come across a band of thugs who are better organised and, frankly, harder than them. The beer-swilling retards got shown up for what they are.

None of those are what I would call warfare. They are attacks which use the Internet in some way. Nothing sophisticated or special about them at all.
Cyber warfare is unlikely to be effective on its own but rather as an effect within conventional warfare where it can be used very effectively. Read up on the invasion of Georgia if you don't believe me. At the moment Cyber on its own does not have much of a kinetic effect but used in conjunction with boots on the ground it can be very effective. Most cyber attacks these days are in the pursuit of intelligence or for illicit financial gain. There is evidence that the recent attacks on the swift bank platform were conducted by North Korea because they are p!ss poor and need the dosh.
