Title: re: Coolant Temp Sensor - which?
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 23 June 2016, 09:08:52
Hello chaps, well re: this recent thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=136230.15

I may be in the market for a new Coolant Temp Sensor - question is which? is there any make will do, only go GM, or somewhere in betweeen? Seems to be part number 90510183 as used on everything since ever...

£10.47 plus le VAT from Vauxhall (trade) so not exactly 'cashing in my assets' time, but nevertheless, ever penny and all that  :y

PS my dealer didn't have one in stock  ::) appears to be used on every Family II/III and ecotec from the 80s/90s, hundreds of thousands of engines, ah well.  :)

IMHO OE or pattern depends to a degree on how easy it is to get to it or to actually change it. As the CTS lives right atthe back of the engine and it's not exactly easy to get to, I'd go OE  ;)

I'm pondering that - I initially wrote the post, but rang the Stealer before posting - if it'd beein 90 + VAT or something I'd have hunted out other options, but sorely tempted with this.

Hoping to get some code reader date at the weekend see if the sensor checks out as faulty  :y

Two votes for GM.

Maybe I should make a referendum - we haven't had one of them for a while?  ;D

Or you could remove the one off Peanut to try first  ;)

Good thinking. How accessible are they on the 2.0s? I'd imagine lots easier to get to.

Ahh, just assumed you knew. Fair do's mate  :y

EVen with my tight-fistedness I'd probably not bother spending the time stripping down a spare V6 to save buying a new temp sensor for just over a tenner. If it's easy to get to on the 2.0 then possibly worth having a look.

Sadly I was only able to find a donor PFL saloon, in Diamond black, with Recaro MV6 leather and carphone - I wasn't able to get a V6 as well!  :D
