Title: Catalytic convertor
Post by: Jukeboxnut on 24 June 2016, 22:26:20
My exhaust from Eternal arrived in good condition thankfully, just one slightly damaged pipe end which bashed out easily.
Unfortunately my catalytic convertor is rattling very badly when the car is first started from cold and I really need to replace it.  I have seen many cheap pattern ones on ebay but there is an IMASAF one for sale and looking at their website it appears that they take a pride in producing high quality items.  Does anyone have any experience of them or can anyone offer me a good original replacement for a 2.2 petrol estate?  Any help would once again be much appreciated.

Buy a replacement cat and get it welded in if the pipe is in good condition

Is it the cat that's rattling or the second skin

The actual cat looks in good condition but there is a terrible rattle from the inside that can be felt when you touch it (obviously when it's cold).  After about a minute the noise stops and does come back until the cat has cooled right down.

I have a small TIG welder and have thought about welding in a replacement box, just worried about getting the alignment right without extensive jigging.

take it off and see what falls out when you shake it, could be a gob of exhaust paste in it or summat
