If it was on a 12 months DDM and its still has a current MOT on the renewal date, they will tax it for another 12 months automatically unless you instruct otherwise.

That's what they did with mine, sent a letter to tell me DDM had been successful and when they'd be taking the money,I'd forgotten it was due!

You don't need a reminder, you know it runs out this month.

I use a small circular disc  located at the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen.

This clever little device has all the details I need.

It's really not that hard. Buy a car, set up a direct debit, when you sell it, cancel direct debit. That's it. Koko could do it.

Depending on which source you choose to believe, anything from £80 million to £400 million is lost in revenue each year since the tax disc was abolished.

This money could be added to the £350 million extra going to the NHS, now we have left the EU. ::) ::) :)

My own opinion, but if they put tax on fuel everyone would have to pay it. So if you have a gas guzzler you pay more due to the fuel you use, if you have a car that sips it, you pay less. Seems fair to me.

You should have realised by now that you'll get nowhere in this life proposing sensible suggestions like that.

That is how it works now.....big V8 you pay a lot more than 1.0L  :y :)

Hence why I decided not to buy a £100k Range Rover.....last time I looked the VED was £1k for the first year  ::) ;D

But it doesn't though at present, anything from £80 million to £400 million is lost in revenue

If it went on fuel there wouldn't be any way of fiddling / not paying it because fuel is a need, you need to go to the pump & put it in & pay for it, whereas as it is at the moment you can drive without tax.

If I sat on any given road with my ANPR running I bet I could get an easy 30-40 in a morning running without tax and it p1$$es me off  >:( >:( >:(

Is there any reason why you don't do just that, then, Jason? It sounds like quite a cost-effective use of your time and would net more revenue than Greed Cameras and cause less resentment than said cameras because we who pay our car tax do not like to see those who don't pay getting away with it.....

Ron.

Ron.

Yes Ron there are several

1. It takes at least 1 1/2 to stop process & have duty garage turn up to seize the vehicle
2. There's not nearly enough of us to do it, literally with less than a dozen of us to cover about 300 miles of motorway & cover the whole county, down time or 'being on patrol' is very rare.
3. We get absolutely nothing, diddly squat, no £££ anything whatsoever from doing it, as it is a DVLA process we only 'act' on their behalf.
4. I'd sooner have a drink driver / no insurance / no license holder for the above reasons.

I'm in no certain terms saying its right how they are priorotised but why should WE do the DVLA's job for them? If they got off their ar$e$ and did sommat about it, i.e. there jobs they'd be ££££££ in.

DVLA vehicle often sits by J16 M4 with an ANPR system running... I guess they "process" those they tag by post as there is no stopping of any vehicle .. .. not sure how effective that method can be :(

It all depends if the car is registered to the current keeper or not.

I reported a woman a while back who had been driving around for over 6 months in a complete shed with no MOT.  :)

The Police told me there wasn't much they could do.  ::)  I told them that as the car was parked on the road and they now had the address and Reg, they should go round and tow the bloody thing!  >:(  She said that if it wasn't taxed they'd do just that, but for no MOT it would get flagged on the ANPR and if she was spotted out and about, then she'd get pulled.  ???

So revenue over road safety.....  :(

Nothing to do with revenue, its the rules. We can't tow a car for no MOT anyway, its just a straight £100 fine & as I said WE don't lift cars on a public highway for no tax, the DVLA do that!!! We can only seize for not tax if the vehicle is being driven, thus be have someone to speak to, fill in the p/work & the DVLA still get the credit.  ::) ::) ::)

It'll never happen, never in a month of Sundays........Unless DVLA pull their finger out and do the enforcement themselves. No scope for us to do it (not enough of us) and they won't pay for our services to help them pull them in.
