Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what the original tyres supplied with the PFL Omega were?
-
Primacy maybe?
-
Spares were Michelin HX. I've often wondered this, too.
-
No idea but at least they weren't the p6000 nastiness
-
Oh no, I've just realised this is another tyre thread...!!! ;D
-
Most car manufacturers use several suppliers for same car and same dimension of the tyre.
Probably that was the case with omega, too.

Even if they're still selling a Pirgoodchelintal aardvark 3000 17 years later, it won't be the same rubber formulation or carcase construction. So it won't drive/feel/last/look/cost the same.
And we all have different experiences; I have happily paid extra for Pirellis(including P6000), but you would have to pay me to put Michelins on my car.

Don't make names like that or there will be a new Chinese brand in a few days

I think we're safe as there isn't room for it on a low profile tyre, and it isn't tough/ridiculous enough for a 4x4 tyre - Desert Duellers for instance.

A very good tyre by Bridgestone.still available.
Think omegas' came from factory with Michelins.

Michelin Pilots I think were on mine - Here is picture of the Old Girl from 2002 (Had her from New so I know what was on there before !)

Here is a picture of her NOW - 14 years later !!! (Now on Uniroyall Rainsport 3's :y)
She has aged well :y :y :y

They came with Michelin Pilots
-
Michelin pilots on mine as well from new, got nearly 25,000 out of them before they neared the end of their life. :y
-
Brochure pic shows Michelin HX (that was early PFL, however) Pilots sound right for MFL / FL :)
-
Dr Andy that cars a credit to you mate. Unless you're a photoshop expert that looks as good as day 1 👍👍👍
-
Michelin Pilot MXM fitted to 3.0
-

Thanks :y
No Photoshop wizardry, just regularly washing, 6 monthly Wax on wax off, and keeping her in an integral nice and dry garage helps :y, as probably does my OCD that I can't stand a dirt car :D
-
Primacy maybe?
Standard fit on my 2003 MV6. I was glad to see the back of them. :-\
-
My 2002 2.2 Dti and 2003 2.2 petrol both had Firestone firehawk 700s
:)

On original michelins, 32,000 and still a few mm remaining :y
I got 75,000 miles out of the original Michelin tyres fitted to a rear of Granada :y :D
-
Mine came with Michelins from new & stayed with them till I sold it last year 27,000 miles per set & no issues whatsoever.
-

Humm, I can feel the Subject of another Thread ;D How far and how little have you done on a set of Tyres :D :D :D

Oh dear, started something now ;D

18,000 on fronts, 32,000 on rears. running them all at a non standard 28psi else the centres wear faster - uses slightly more fuel, softer ride, seems to stop and corner just as well if not better.
-
Earlier FL came with Mich PS2, later with PS3 I believe.
I understand that the MFL MV6 came with Dunlop SP9000.
-
So who is going to ask TB what is his record for yards covered on a set of new tyres? :)

Somewhere between 7,500 and 10,000 iirc ;D

Best was 12000 (on driven wheels), consistently from Dunlop SP9000 and Sport Maxx TT's
Worse was 3000 from those shitty Continental SC5s, driving sensibly.
4k from Avon ZZ3s. Poor tyre, but such a hoot on my chipped tractor.
I would say we had stonkingly good mileage from some 2nd hand Nexen N6000s I got from RobG ages ago (they came with the wheels). The threads finally poked through earlier this year. That's gotta be a good 20+k from 5mm to "not quite legal" :o. Shit tyre though.

So you knacker a set of tyres in less than 3 miles ??? :) Pretty good going I must admit .. I think even drag racers do better than that !!

Had to think about that for a few seconds.......... until I saw yards. ;D :y

I think I managed to wear away about 2mm of tread down to the canvas in a fortnight when the Turbo Weasel got knackered front wishbones. If they were brand new tyres, doing the maths, that might equate to about 300-400 miles. Lesson of the day = check your wishbones. :D

Errrr, pedantic bugger ;D
Yes, I was talking miles :).
I'm sincerely hoping that my tyres will last a lot longer now that the local BP have finally admitted that selling fuel is an inconvenience, and hence don't any more. So my BP temper tantrums rarely happen now...
...although on the M5 in early June, after checking the BP website to check that the services actually sold fuel, I did try some youthful impetulance in TBE upon being told by the cashier that in the 2yrs she'd worked there, they hadn't sold LPG, so I turned of TC, launch started it in the hope of showing my distain. And the bloody thing just hankered down and took off like a scalded cat, with not a peep from the tyres :o

Oooh, just refresh my mammary... is that feet on both pedals, building up the revs to a certain point, then releasing the footbrake, yes? Is there a 'safe range' or just try and bend the needle past the redline? :)

Foot on brake, build revs until you get to stall point, at around 2.5-3k. You'll know.
It does the gearbox no favours at all.

Haha! Right.... so well worth giving it a try on a 20 year old AR25 with 185k+, then? What could possibly go wrong!? :y
