Title: Cleaning small breather on 2.2
Post by: terry paget on 26 July 2016, 08:10:51
If breathers are blocked cam cover gaskets blow. I am struggling to clear the small breather on my recently purchased petrol 2.2. It looks like it should be simpler than on the 2.0 'cos there is no coolant ring around it. However I could not get a wire through it, nor even see a hole on the inside. So I removed the throttle assembly from the old 2.2 awaiting the scrapper, and dsicovered there is a hole on the inside.(https://www.dropbox.com/s/krybwms90pom5av/2.2breather.jpg?dl=1)
Must persevere. Also I cannot see how to unplug the cable to the throttle motor. It looks as if I should press down on the grey centre bit, then pull. Should I pull harder?

Cleaned throttle box, pusged wire through smal;l idler hole.

Investigating whether cam cover gasket was gone, I removed the plug stick. Therews a trace of oil on sticks 3 & 4, so I cleaned up the sticks and changed all the plugs for the Vx000 plugs in the 2.2 awaiting collection by scrappie. He will pay me £35 for the wreck, last year he paid £30 so things are looking up.

Can still be scuttle, car may have been parked nose down in which case the water tends to pool at the no1 plug end
