I had a lad come round & help me with timing chain. we had an auto-data how to so nothing should go wrong. I had my doubts when he said it was at tdc as the arrow on the injector pump sprocket was not as the drawing depicted & was told it was ok
.(he is a mechanic that retired 4mths ago) I was left to put it all back together. a mate came round & asked if it turned over ok, I presumed it would but no it was locking up. I took off the cover & removed both chains but it is still locking when the crank is spun. iwhen I turn it I think I can hear a compression sound from 3 pistons but on the 4th it then locks. any ideas , :-\ :'(

what car mate?
if I were you (having previously wrecked my v6 heads after cocking up a belt job) I'd strip it down and start from scratch using the marks you have from auto data.

2.2 dth . I have just been out to see how much the crank spins round before it lock & its almost 360 degrees. I am not sure if the balancer unit was taken off to enable a new sump gasket to be put on. ( its a question Iv,e just been asked. ) there is no info whatever in the Haynes, just a note saying the info wasn't available. I have the timing chains off, so should the crank spin more than a turn.
