Title: One for the smokers....
Post by: Webby the Bear on 12 August 2016, 18:45:55
I smoked aged 14-18 and then stupidly restarted again at 26 and had been on-off til my hols last year. I had my last actual smoke in October. I then got hooked on the patches.

Now these patches are good but with the work I do I sweat a lot and they often fall off and they get wasted. Recently a lad at work started vaping. Tried it. Loved it.

Bought my first proper vape machine thingy today. 68 notes inc. the juice needed. But after the initial expensive outlay it's just juice and replacement coils every so often (not sure what the coils do exactly).

Out of pure interest I just wondered if there were any fellow oofers who vaped? I love how like smoking it is but with awesome flavours...... Mines wine gums  8)

Tries the Vaping, eCigs, use to make feel a bit ill after a while so stopped it.

Bit like Beer really, cant seem to drink anymore for some reason, have about 18 pints and I can hardly talk and start falling about all over the place.

You're doing better than me: I would drown if I had 18 pints

Bought one for £48.

Went from 20+ per day to
7 then 6
5, 4 then 2 per day.

Thought what the hell was i bothering to smoke 2 per day for.

Now only vaping no smoking at all.

Don't even miss them.

This i might add is after 43 years of smoking.

Keep on vaping, you will get there in the end.

Took me less than a month to quit. Happy days.

So is the idea with vaping to give that up as well eventually?  ???  :-\

To be nicotine free?  :)

Sorry for bring pedantic, but you're still smoking, just without smoke...

Surely you either quit or you don't, swapping one nicotine fix for another achieves nothing :-\

Giving up vaping is the next thing.

Of course you can, and there are plenty of people that vape with 0mg of nicotine.

It pleases me, that's all that counts.

Instead you are deliberately inhaling finely atomised chemicals of dubious origin. But they are your lungs.

Years ago everyone thought that smoking tobacco was safe. Today everyone thinks that vaping is safe. The only thing that is guaranteed to be safe is clean non polluted air. I used to smoke, a hell of a lot. I gave up about 5 years ago, no patches, no gum, no vaping. For a long time after making the decision I always kept a pack in my pocket. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before scare stories about vaping start to emerge. It's still too new for any long term effects to be seen.

My understanding is it's not as good as not smoking. But better than smoking. Nicotine is the drug. Tar is the most harmful bit.

I always buy (in a vape shop) liquid that has been manufactured in the UK, the various agencies are not going to allow harmful chemicals to be used (that they are aware of anyway) unlike liquids manufactured in other parts of the world and bought of the net. :)

That's the owner of the premises choice.....perfectly legal and allowed in my place of work  ;)

Oh and I did have a look at the Wales government website and could not find any mention of vaping being illegal in places of work..  :-\

You have more faith in the various agencies than I do. Plus, you're assuming that the manufacturers employ appropriately qualified chemists rather than a bloke with some test tubes concocting a blend that tastes nice.  And all chemicals are harmful in the wrong dose; even water will kill you.

Merry Christmas to you... ::)

The vapeurs, pun intended, that I encounter seem to posess the same air of entitlement as vegans and Prius drivers...

If I wanted to inhale a nicotine laden chemical redition of vanilla with a hint of jasmine, then I would smoke. Cigars probably, just to be irksome... but I don't. On both counts.

I can't see a problem with it myself. On the whole, it's much less intrusive than "proper" smoking. I wouldn't let someone smoke in my house, for example, (and didn't do so myself back in the bad old days) but I have no problem with visitors vaping, as some people have more offensive air fresheners in their houses. I don't have a problem with vaping in pubs, etc. and see no reason why it should necessarily be banned where smoking is.

There isn't a lot of regulation of what goes into them at the moment, so there are, of course, some unknowns, but there's no way it can be as harmful as smoking, in my view. It has helped many of my family and friends continue to imbibe in a less dangerous way so I'm all for it.

I suspect the treasury will be looking for a way to replace the dent it has made in their tax take sooner or later, however, so I suspect it won't last.

Crikey this threads gone south lol

In my opinion there's no way of knowing how harmful it is. Only after 50 years of it being regularly used can we determine.

As a kid I used to go in WMC's when they were full of smoke. I suppose that's a good thing they're not like that anymore from a health pov.

As for users of vape I actually can't remember seeing someone use one in the street. But then I rarely venture in to town or pubs.

What amazes me is the technology. Mines got a 4" battery. A puff counter lol a wattage adjuster. A tank comprising the liquid. A "coil" which upon inspection appears to be gauze. And all these things are connected via threads and tiny o rings lol

God the Turks have bee doing this for years. But then I suppose it's more difficult carrying a 4ft sheisha pipe lol

and what 'air of entitlement' do vegans seems to possess? I live a vegan lifestyle as much as knowingly possible, and I don't possess an 'air of entitlement', nor does anyone else I know. Does this view come from a reasoned and well rounded view of vegans, or extrapolated from one or a few unrepresentative examples? Maybe it comes from your prejudice views and fear of difference/insecurity. I do, however, have a perfectly reasonable sense of vicarious entitlement to not be appropriated, used, abused, tortured, and have my throat cut and be bled to death. If any sentient beings that were important to you, like your family, were under threat of decapitation. you might feel the same.

Just for clarification, are we talking about doing this to Smokers, Vapers, family members or all 3  ?

I know our lass can be a bit of a old cow at times but I would never subject her to any of the above or a vegan diet for that matter  ;D

But hey, its a great world we live in it   ;D ;D

Where do you get the idea from that we should do any of these things to any group? When read, properly, my post doesn't have any suggestion that any of these things should be done to any group. Your post does though.

No it's not such a great world, not for the ones who watch their fellow kind have their heads sliced off, while waiting for their turn.

Gollum is talking in general terms. The perceived view of the groups he mentions are that the come across as holier than thou, ex smokers are generally more vocal than non smokers when it comes to telling smokers that they should stop .(i'm not saying you are like this)

Maybe you should read Tigers sig as he is clearly taking the mick, this is another general note I have made of the vegans I have met, they have no humor chip installed.
