Title: Omega Top Speed
Post by: lloyd3213 on 31 August 2016, 10:47:33
What's the fastest speed you've driven in your Omega, and what's the actual top speed of one (not on paper)?

On a long, straight track, north of 150mph (calibrated manual 3.2 estate).

267 MPH at Nardo.

Sorry, that was in my Veyron Super Sport. :-[

Easy mistake to make. :)

100mph in a turbo weasel that real about 4mph over true at 30mph  :D

so that equates to a true 95 mph vs indicated 110mph, pretty rubbish, really haha.

Have done 140mph in an Astra Turbo at Milbrook, that's fastest I've ever been, in any car. (except my lessons, where it felt I was doing 100mph in town driving, but an indicated 24mph  ;D)

130 mph on the M3 towards Winchester at around 3 AM on a quiet, empty and dry road; but the unmarked Plod thoght I shouldn't have done it.
The court looked after my licence for me for 6 months and made me £159 poorer!

Ron.

P.S. There was still more to go, but I chickened out.....

A mate of mine borrowed by GPS once and had great pride in showing me that it indicated a top speed of 120 MPH after a trip in his kit car.

Next week, I handed it back to him indicating 174 MPH. ;D Eventually, I confessed that it had been flown at Vne in my glider with a brisk tail wind. :D

Passing a maxed out BMW735 in a £1000 V8 mk1 Escort is an experience I've never wanted to repeat. Although nothing beats the Trabant Incident for fear.

I have noticed (on a track of course ) that after 150-160kmh(100mph) omega beats just about any 200hp ish car example volvo, mercedes  ::)

Top speed with manual according to dash 245kmh(150mph) probably real about 225-235kmh(140-145mph)?

I'm under similar impression.
Omega is not quite responsive and agressive on low speeds (it's a bit disapoiting).
However, it's a whole different world on high speeds (this is where the 'high power but not so high torque' cars can't keep up the pace).

Also, I've learned from various British car shows (wheeler dealers and similar) and from this forum, that there are many privately owned tracks and roads in UK  ;D ;D

My 3.0 saloon was comfortable at an indicated 140+ driving down through Germany when I went to Italy... Mrs LD wasn't though so the speed limiter kicked in and I dropped to 110-120 for the remainder of the journey.

My 3.2 estate, along with a go faster Black 3.2 saloon with LSD had to teach a Porsche a lesson in France because he kept pulling in front of us and slowing down... He became a spec in the rear view mirror when we were at around 140 :-\ ::)

Would imagine a 911 on a public road at that speed would be rather uncomfortable  ::)

B.i.l has one. I didn't find it uncomfortable at all, I'm just a very bad passenger at speed. If a pair of Omegas were leaving a 911 in their wake, the driver doesn't deserve to be driving a 911.  ;)

Agreed... I think the driver didn't have the balls after egging us on ::)

Last time I saw a young 911 driver, the car was going backwards at high speed heading for a duck pond in Epping Forrest. In fact it was going backwards, then sideways, then forwards, then sideways, the backwards again before the big splash.  ::)

And no the convertible ones dont float, Ducks didn't seem that impressed either as he forgot to switch the stereo off before vacating the vessel.  ;D

Mine was at VMax 155 without the LC spoiler, I lost 10MPH with it fitted....

It would sit quite happily at 120 and fealt very stable...

This was on a private track of course :y

I think we both know that our driving styles are not that dissimilar.  :-X  This will cheer you up then, yesterday on the Eastern Bypass, me daydreaming, camera van in lay-by and me no see him.  ::)  Will have to wait and see .  :(

As to the OP's question, I'm saying nowt. People with four numbers after their name makes me nervous. It reminds me of collar/shoulder numbers.  ;D

I would never ever admit I have been speeding but I do know that Y26SE Oemga auto will throw fourth speed in at 200 km/h.

Had a indicated 130 mph on my old pfl 2.5 manual saloon and it was still creeping  :-* :-*

Both the 3ltr and 3.2 estates get up there quite a bit faster but have not pushed past 120 in either tbh, and that was only for a few seconds.

I must take a trip to Elvington again sometime  :D :D
