Title: tightening head bolts
Post by: raywilb on 08 September 2016, 17:39:45
does any body still tighten the head bolts down to a torque as opposed dwell angles. I did buy a dwell angle tool though not happy trying to use it.  reason of ask is a mate suspects a h/g problem.

All depends on the car, some are just torque loaded, some are angle tightened. Each must always be done the way the manufacturer specified.

Yep, most cars these days use stretch bolts, and this necessitates angle tightening.

The initial torque setting is just to bed the bolt in. Angle tightening applies a defined amount of stretch.
