Official long stay carpark suddenly looks much better value ;)

About 16 years ago I had the Police banging on my door around midnight demanding where the Black Cosworth was parked and why around half an hour ago I was driving in a wreckless manor and had failed to stop when requested by the Police. :o
My first reaction was 'Shit, my Cossie been stolen' then after it all sunk in, I relised the Car was in one of the Local Garages having the Exhaust System replaced, was told on the day I booked it in, it wouldn't be ready for a day or two. >:( >:( >:(

How can the idiot driver not have noticed the two cameras in the car? Let alone drive like that in someone else's property >:( >:(
-
I would never use a carpark where I have to hand over the keys. I've seen it time and time again.

Many years back I used one off site at Gatwick. Used it several times actually. On one occasion they had clearly "touch" parked my Mk 3 Cavalier because they had broken the bumper mount clips. There was a brief discussion where they tried to wriggle but, in fairness, it was very brief. They then paid my local Vx Bodyshop directly for the repair. :y
I did use them again but was much more thorough in both checking mileage and checking the car ::)

Almost never drive to airports . . .
. . . . as I try to avoid flying at all these days. The whole process is a serious pain in T A

Last time I needed to park the car near an airport I got that bloke who lived not near Reading to park it... Mind you, it was a long trip ::)

Why would they care?

I want to live in a country where 'the norm' simply isnt to 'rent' everything you own; abuse and mistreat until the 6-month, or 2/3-year lease period is over, hand back the scratched/knackered 'old' one, and receive a brand new, shiny thing. It has bread a culture of abuse and total lack of respect for property, because guess what? Some people still save up to own, and care for their things, not just see a scratch, shrug, bin it and just 'get' a new one.

I'd rather drive. And for a 2hr flight or less, its quicker to drive.

. . . . . also, I've stopped bothering about pristine shiny perfect cars, and the expense that goes with them. Park in a supermarket car park a few times and any car won't be pristine for long. I recently got an '06 Volvo. From a distance I watched an opening van door put a small dent in it. I was cross, but not like REALLY REALLY cross, however if it had been a £40k Merc, I would have been

I'd have slammed the drivers head in the door, even if it was a £300 banger! :-X ::)How can the idiot driver not have noticed the two cameras in the car? Let alone drive like that in someone else's property >:( >:(

About the cameras or the driving? Clearly to keep their job either way ::)

If my car is ever left anywhere, I allways take a pic of the dash with the ignition on, the pic records all mileage readings and the fuel level (and the pic gets taken in front of someone to make a point ts all recorded) :y

Not sure if this is the right clip, but it was posted on here a while back about the garage that road tested a VXR :-\

I park mine at the far end of the car park but I still get paranoid, and you still get some idiot parking next to you even when there`s about 60 spaces all around >:(

Hmmm, maybe I need to travel in the Zafira, in order to get all the cases in :P

Only time I've used airport parking was back in 2009 at East Midlands airport.Parked where I was told and handed keys over, when we returned the car had been moved to a different spot but not far enough to even register as extra mileage and car was in same condition as when I'd left it.

I have heard a few horror stories about so-called valet parking companies. There are also some intricacies around insurance. There was a chap in Essex who had a 911 that he left with a Valet parking company at Stansted. The driver wrote it off and the valet company only had 3rd party insurance. The owner couldn't claim on his own insurance as he wasn't driving at the time so he was initially left out of pocket. I don't know whether he went after the parking company as a civil matter.
Personally, I don't let anyone use my car, even on the times when I have used dealers to service it. If you expressly say you don't want you car road-tested and the garage subsequently do road-test it, the mechanic can be prosecuted for taking without consent I believe.
The moral for me is, use normal long stay or short stay.

Fully agree. Saves hanging around waiting for bus or driver to turn up, and you know nobody has used your car.

Less so now, as we all have to drive to get in, but a few years ago workmates were always borrowing mine at lunchtime to nip out to get something. But only because I trusted them.
