My sister complains that her 1598 petrol manual Meriva stalls occasionally. I think it's fly by wire. How might I correct the stalling?
-
Under what conditions? Any codes?
-
I think in traffic halts, not sure. Have not checked for codes, car is not here now. She is going into hospital Monday, I shall have the car available then. Thanks dfor prompt response.

Should pedal trick if required ;)

EGR valve...?
-
Soon after buying my V70 it took to stalling on occasion[traffic lights/road junctions etc] not every time just seemingly at random,it fired straight back up again and had no other running issues.A couple of quick blasts of carb cleaner and the use of an old toothbrush to clean the throttle body and hey presto!no more stalling. So could this be the cause?I shouldn't think it could hurt to give it a try,it's quick, easy and cheap!!

EGR valve...?
exhaust gas recirculation :y

Yeah...he knows that...it was a suggestion...... ;D

Thanks for advice gentlemen. I did not know recent Vauxhalls had exhaust gas recirculation. I have it on my older Omegas - 2.0s and 2.5s - but not on 2.2s and 2.6s. I understand it is an emission device to enable higher compression ratio, making the engine more efficient, which can be removed without MOT failure. I have not known it cause stalling. I will look for it on the 2007 Meriva. Thanks for the tip.

If it's fundamentally the same engine as the Z18... Then it doesn't have an egr set up iirc :-\
Throttle body clean would be a reasonable starting point ;)

2.2 does have an egr I thought?
T'was only the silly 2.6 and 3.2's that had the power sapping compromises.
-
Don't think so. I've just had a look at Ben's 2.2, and can't any EGR bits. I will check on the Meriva when I collect it though.

If it's on cold starts only worth checking live data to see if the ECT is giving out some dodgy readings and not adding enough fuel at start up. Just cured a fiesta with same issue.

;D ;D :y
Stalling on Meriva's that I've looked at has either been the throttle body requiring cleaning or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) ;D

Is it an 8 or a 16v?
my wife had an 8v and she said the egr valve gummed up a few times
