Hello all, i hope someone can help as i have MOT this week.
My key fob stopped working as i tried to get to work a few days ago, so I opened car with key thinking once i put key in ignition it would knock off alarm....but no. so as alarm blared at 7am i decided to disconnect battery, then i disconnected power sounder and removed fuse for hazard lights (which also disables info on dash, speedo, radio and air conditioning etc).
I went to buy a new key fob...£70 :( , but his tech machine wouldn't communicate with car diagnostics in order to sync new fob ??? . I was wondering if this had anything to do with the alarm being in activation mode, and/or the power sounder being disconnected. Btw the fuse had to be re-fitted during this. In the meantime I'm still driving car ok, but with a few dashlights flashing. The boot doesn't open either from the main console. Can't get through MOT like this.
I managed to knock together an old fob, the red light shows when pressing buttons, but no joy communicating with car.
Any help greatly appreciated :y (2001 3.0v6 elite)

I should add, after reading other info here, it probably isn't the power sounder i disconnected, as i believe they continue to holler after the battery is disconnected, which mine didn't do. Confused

Dump the power sounder in the bin.
put everything else back as it was. unlock, start it, stop, remove key, shut door, lock it etc and report back.
For the time being you lock the car by pushing the drivers button down via the open rear door, this will stop the alarm from activating as your not using the key.

OK I'll try that, thanks for reply mate :y

Just dont lock yourself out. ;)

I tried all the above and no joy. Still at a loss as to why the diagnostic machine couldn't communicate with ecu :'(

If you're using O p c o m, aka the device which must not be named, then you'll be needing a genuine Tech2 session and replacement ecus to fix :-X

Be clear, what now isn't working?

Thx for replies...I just had it in with a vauxhall bloke (not a dealer) and he said the brain is faulty, his tech machine couldnt communicate either. He knows a guy breaking 2 omegas and can get me a new brain (for the car ::) ) along with the key. I'll update when its sorted along with any info that may be of use to anyone. cheers :y

If you mean the main ECU, there not all the same, so be a bit weary where you going with all this and any capitol outlay.
Not sure what options you've got in your area, but might be worth getting a second opinion with another Tech 2 owner.
Your details say its a 3.0 on a 2001 year, is this correct? as there are some big changes around 2000/2001, 3.0/3.2.

That's correct. He said it's located near where the bonnet pI'll lever is above drivers footwear. He's got a good reputation with vauxhall owners and apparently knows his stuff. I'm sure he'll know if it's the right one or not. Sod drives a vxr8 bathurst...stood drooling over it.

Main engine ECU (if that`s what you mean) is nowhere near there. Alarm/locking ECU lives in that area

Sry that must be what he meant...he just said the brain of the alarm. I'm not very knowledgeable on car electrics at all. The for the heads up anyhow :y ps I meant footwell not footwear lol...hate typing on this phone.

Just to clarify Moon
Which "brain" are we talking about ?
The engine ecu "brain" which is sat along side the fusebox on the right (as you look at the engine) hand side, near the battery OR the oem alarm system control "brain" which is sat under the dash, just above your right foot / accelerator ?
