Why are a number of people signing up and generally taking the mickey out of the new forum?

Someone is trying to set up a valuable resource to support all types of VX cars, not just Omega's - let's not go upsetting anyone, eh.

While I feel dedicated to this site I do also contribute to other forums on occasions and I don't feel there's anything much wrong with doing that ::)

Having had quite a lengthy chat with the Owner, I think they have some good motives and done properly has the potential to become a good website, especially as it will cover the entire VX range. I don't think OOF should see it as a threat at all because effectively it covers the wider range, whereas we really just specialise in one model (which I must admit, also works very well).

I believe this site will never be beaten for Omega knowledge combined between us all - but it is equally good to see other forums out there who will touch on all models.

Title: Re: Found a Vauxhall furum that is totally empty?
Post by: TheBoy on 29 July 2008, 15:45:45
Trouble is, there are so many other cross model Vauxhall forums.  Do we need yet another?  I know some of the other big ones have all sorts of other issues, but I think the owners would do better trying to help the other forums get better, as, bluntly, they do not offer anything to attract people to use their own forum.

That one has obviously been running a few months, and virtually 0 posts.  Which implies to me, their owners may well have the enthusism, but not the knowhow.

Dont think any body meant any real harm TB, someone found it last night (empty), and a few OOF'ers decided to go for a swim, that time of night with or with out the Beer factor was just a bit of something new.   :y

Talking to the owner, they have a reason for this. They've not wanted to publicise it because they've been waiting on various resources before they want it to become active.

I have agreed to give them a bit of a hand (if only to learn more about how forums work, I've always been interested but never set one up) ... but I obviously won't be going away from OOF :y

I too would not like to see people taking the P!ss, especially signing up with names like cholostomy bag (I really hope that's not come from OOF) - :y

What resources are they short of out of interest?

The main two I know of are -

People to help run the site (lots of people want to be a moderator, but few know exactly what it involves when a site gets big!)

Time to populate it (Various people have committed to writing the maintenance guides early in August)

The main two I know of are -

People to help run the site (lots of people want to be a moderator, but few know exactly what it involves when a site gets big!)

Time to populate it (Various people have committed to writing the maintenance guides early in August)
Hmmm, not sure they are going the right way about it  :-/

You need members to post before get a whole load of mods in - then they choose an unknown (to that forum) moderator (congrats on your promotion btw).  I would get the members in and posting, then decide who would fit in best moderating  :-/

Need to get the members in, else the guides go unread ;)

That one has obviously been running a few months, and virtually 0 posts.  Which implies to me, their owners may well have the enthusism, but not the knowhow.

Nothing like ambition :P

Seriously, if you get it right from the start, its the same involvement no matter how big - obviously the bigger, there is just more of it to do!

Must admit, they had 40+ members and no one had posted, the forum has been up since Feb.  seemed a bit odd.

Site owner is a member of (and looks at) other large forum's I am part of, so I'm not a total stranger.

I honestly don't know how or even if it will evolve, but I'm certainly going to welcome the opportunity to help out with it's development, if it could become something useful. :y

Obviously I like to think that OOF members are not going over there piss taking.  Obviously, I can't prevent people doing that, only remove the link in a vain hope to prevent it.

Dont think any body meant any real harm TB, someone found it last night (empty), and a few OOF'ers decided to go for a swim, that time of night with or with out the Beer factor was just a bit of something new.   :y

Last night started as a "lets be thefirst to post " and have a giggle I suppose, If I had intended to get myself banned, do you think I would have joined as Skruntie.    I Dont Think So.   :y

Nah, you did no harm. I have still moved your thread though - it was so not a technical question ;D  :P

Cant even remember what I put, so dont know what you moved.   ;D ;D ;D

Regardless of whether or not it's a success, My involvement and commitment on this site won't change :y

Come the end of August, I will become more scarce on them all!

*link removed by TheBoy as it would appear that some members were ridiculing it *

Just looking around and found this, at first thought you could see nothing till registeres, still nothing, yet caims 42 members, 22of whom are active. :-?
[/highlight]

Well it was me that found the site, looking around for some info, and I feel my comment above is just as valid, till last night Zero posts by anyone other than an admin, since february :-? I mentioned it on here, possibly with the idea of it getting a 'Boost' to quick start it, in my mind, no posts, nothing to read no new members. I did this with the Catera forum some months back.
I am sorry if the owners took any offence at any postings, suggest they remove them if they did.  :(
