last time I was in Orkney was about 30 years ago, was doing some stuff for Jersey Telecom, we were heading to Jersey in a Light Aircraft, and was told to fook off Diverted out as they were only accepting IFR / Cat III landings to a Ground Cloud Base.

We Radio'd to Orkney to ask if we could land there, yea kind of, was the reply, but make it quick as we close at 5 oclock. So having landed, we were told to report to the Tower to check in and pay the Landing Fee, went there and met the Man with a white shirt and Controllers hat on, paid the man and was instructed to go downstairs to clear Customs / Immigration, went there and waited a few mins then a man appeared with a white shirt and a Customs hat on,....   same bloke, cleared Customs and he asked if we needed a Taxi and somewhere to stay for the night, was told he would arrange that and to wait outside the Airport Entrance.

Waited outside for about five mins, and could see this chap locking up all the doors of the Airport, then dissapears. Next minuite this Blue Volvo Taxi appears from nowhere, pulls up, ... same bloke, I jest not.  ;D

Cut a long story short the Taxi ended up delivering Parcels and Chunks of Meat on the way to the Guest House. Guest House belonged to his Mum, and we were recommend to the Pub down the hill in the Habour, which low and behold who was working behind the Bar,...... same bloke.  ;D

Guessing its not like that anymore, starnge place, other thing I remeber was all the telephone numbers on the Island were all 3 digits long.  :D

Yea, thats the one,  :D ;D FFS, not having a good week, think the brains going in Chernobyl melt mode. Now I know thats not an Island.  ;D

That bit got me worried from the start ... glad to know it was incorrect !!!

Orkney? Alderney? Near enough, they,re only islands after all. ;D
