Title: fault codes p1740 p1120 p1550 p0120
Post by: pigtown on 27 December 2016, 11:35:22
Had the codes above and changed the tps. Still get the same and sometimes the throttle doesn't work. ATF was low so topped it up with just over 1 litre. Now codes still there and won't clear.
Read the forum and cam sensor seems popular, I did change it with a genuine one about 5 years ago,  could it have gone again?

It is a 2.2 petrol auto.
Do you reckon it is gone again after 5 years?

It's the most sensible place to start ;) especially as these are prone to throwing up anything but the cam sensor one... The clue being gearbox codes.

As ever, only buy genuine from a genuine Vx dealer that you genuinely have to walk into ;)

Have you cleaned the throttle body and breathers?  I'd certainly do that before changing any sensor on the car...

Yes I've cleaned the throttle body and breathers. Also replaced the rocker cover gasket as there was oil in the plug holes. The locaĺ Vauxhall dealer parts dept was shut today so hoping to get the cam sensor tomorrow.

Replaced the cam sensor but still the same error codes also 1700 which I missed off the list above.

Any suggestions?

Happy New Year...

Don't know if this has any bearing on the problem but I also changed the battery and alternator.

Changed the throttle body with a used one. I gave it a very thorough clean first.
The codes all  cleared at rest and revs etc were ok so I though that was it...but...
When driving down the road it was ok until I tried hard acceleration then limp mode kicked in again.
Even after clearing the codes it now feels as if the gearbox is slipping all the time.

Not sure if this is related to the original faults or I have multiple faults.

As I am beginning to doubt myself can someone confirm the orientation of the cam sensor is the reverse of that shown in the final picture in the how to guide...

Any codes in the gearbox, specifically reporting incorrect ratio?

I'm not sure if I can read gearbox codes. I have an ELM327 that connects by bluetooth to my tablet.

I am getting the code p1740-08 from the gearbox.
Torque control error.

The only sensor I haven't changed is the crank......could this be the problem?

It's unusual for that engine to not throw a crank sensor code... that said, unlike the v6, it will still run with a faulty sensor.

And you're correct re the orientation of the sensor in the last guide pic... on the picture before with the sensor in place, you can just make out the thin prong of the fork... :y

Before changing ought else on a whim, I'd get everything cleared out of engine, tcm and abs, then see what comes back

I cleared them out and ran the engine while not moving and all good.
Drove up the road for about 10 minutes and still all good.
Then while driving it kicked into limp mode and all the same codes were back.
So seems intermittent and maybe only appears while driving.
Also maybe only when hot?

Replaced the crank sensor - not easy to get at!!!
It was running well and I did about 50 miles all looking good then it went back into limp mode again!!
Haven't read the codes yet.
Ive changed all the sensors so what next.
Can't be a real mechanical fault as it was running great between limp modes.

Hi sorry if its been covered but whats it like idleing is it ok

Reason i ask SWMBO Zaffy threw up similar codes and was idleing like a bag of nails after changing cam cover gaskets i was stuck for hours it was throwing a wobbler to then relise id forgotten to reconnect gearbox breather so its either

A) pipe not connected

B) Split in pipe

Might be worth a check

Hi, idling is ok. I have cleaned the crankcase breather, which I think is the one you are referring to. It is back on and in one piece. Thanks for trying though.

Cleared all the codes again and went for a drive. Did over 50 miles and all ok.
But I have now read the codes again and now get:

P1740
P1781
P1525
P1612
P1613

so some different codes than before even though it has been running ok.........I'm confused....any ideas?
