Title: How long to change 6 spark plugs?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 29 November 2006, 14:00:58
How long to change the plugs?  Even the dreaded Haynes didn't tell me to remove the wipers (and i had to!)
Never know a car like it for having to get the wipers off for every little poxy job.  Anybody come up with a quick release for them yet?

Don't have to remove the wipers, Cap'n, just invest in a flexible socket extension. Took me about an hour (although I didn't tighten one plug up enough and had to get to it again yesterday).

You could use one of these to get the wiper arm off.

Took me about 10hrs, including the cam covers.  Woulda taken longer if I had to take the scuttle off.  ;)

I used an identical one to that (branded laser) - what a waste of space that was! The prongs at the bottom just bent and the tool slipped off ...  ::)

I allways make sure I get the right ones from the dealers as it's about an hour round trip to change em!  ;D

On my old CDX v6, I changed them in halfrauds car park, with a semi-flexible spark plug spanner, and a couple of small spanners to remove the ICV/Loom at the LHS of the enigine. Not really a bad job. the leads seem to not want to come out at the back, but they will come out in a certain way.....

I would say 45 mins to one hour if not an expert...

I prepared a whole array of flexible tools to deal with the dreaded rear passenger-side plug, but it went a doodle no problems at all.

Old plug out…

New plug in…

As long s you have the correct lengths of extensions (need to combine a few to get the correct height) there’s no problem…
