Title: looking for Omega Guru around Coventry area.
Post by: mantaray on 09 January 2017, 20:55:02
Now that I have my new 2.6 Omega up and running, I would like to have someone in the know give the engine a once over, just to make sure all is working fine.

Not done much running in her yet, but only getting 17mpg according to trip comp. and as I don't know alot about the 2.6 it would be nice to have someone who knows these engines give it a look over to make sure all is Ok with her.

So are there any Omega gurus near Coventry who would be willing to give her a good look over?

Thanks Chris.

Not a direct answer to your question - and I apologise for that.

But............

If you have a really heavy right foot, and do short distances..... 17mpg is pretty much what you are looking for.  :y

Heavy foot.... No. Have been driving her like the old man I am. But yes, so far have only done short 7 mile round trips to work.
Before i did the cam cover gaskets on her i did do a 300 mile trip with a caravan on back and got 18 MPG, so was expecting a bit more than 17 with no caravan.

Over the last 100,000 miles my 2.6 auto has generally indicated about 26mpg.

for 100,000 miles before that my 2.5 manual used to indicate about 28mpg.

I do mostly 20 miles each way to work with fairly regular journeys between 100 and 300 miles.

7 miles each way will hit your fuel consumption but mostly because fuel consumption is dreadful until the engine warms up. Is yours getting up to temperature?

Sounds about right to me.

Get the old girl up to temperature whilst taking her for a steady drive for 30 or so miles.  Reset the computer, then drive home.  That should give you an accurate (accurate as the FC can be) reading.  :y
