Title: Can I fit Lucas calipers on a 1995 2.0 16V Estate
Post by: addy on 14 January 2017, 18:57:01
I have a 1995 2.0Ltr 16V estate, that has I believe Treves or whatever they are called calipers. Can someone tell me if I can do a direct Lucas Brake calipers change for the front off any model later than 1995, or will they not work.  I have a sticking caliper on passenger side, but can only find lucas calipers available from later models.

Thanks in advance for all help.

Pretty sure the discs are a little smaller diameter on your car than than later cars

Indeed, a whole 10mm and 4mm thicker too... ;)

So new discs, pads and hoses to boot...

Original wheels will still fit ;)

Aside from hoses and discs, will lucas work.  According to Haynes pre 1998 have 3 channel ABS later ones have 4 channel ABS, is this something that will affect the new calipers if off a newer car, also will I have to change back calipers aswell? Sorry about all the questions.

Thanks for all the answers so far.

yes, they'll work, providing you change the discs too (not sure why you'd need the hoses too, but they're only cheap, so why not)
The ABS is an electrickery mod ...... the rears will be the same. It's only the 2.6 & 3.2 cars that have different discs & calipers at the back ie they're vented discs

Mentioned the hoses as I believe they enter the caliper in a different position and use a different fitting :y

That's great so correct me if i'm wrong 2 new discs for a 2.0-2.5 from any year after '95. 2 LUCAS break calipers from 2.0-2.5 can sort them out. And hoses which I would change if doing the rest.  Don't have to do anything with ABS or back brake system.

Does this seem OK? Thanks again for all this help.

There are only two sizes of disc fitted to the front, the smaller discs that you have and and ALL (2.0 2.2 2.5 2.6 3.0 & 3.2) other Omega use the same bigger disc. ABS & the rear discs are unaltered  :y

Thanks.  All replies have been a great help. Will be changing up. Was quoted £200 for the same caliper type on now.  LUCAS ones are much cheaper, must be due to supply and demand? Better braking aswell.

If you wanted to go belts and braces, you can get braided brake hoses in a kit... Omega ones come as a set of 6, just be sure that you're ordering later ones :y

Your dates and engines sizes are incorrect.

Pre 1998 2.0l cars use 286mm front discs.

All other cars use 296mm front discs.

Thanks TheBoy for correcting me, I meant to say 1998 for the brakes not '95.  So if I got LUCAS brakes and carriers, the bigger discs and pads from a model later than 98 say for example a 2000 saloon they would fit and work, without altering anything else?  Would I have to change the flex pipes as they come up as the same for all years, would change them anyway if doing the rest, just want to get correct ones.

Won't hurt to renew them given the car is 20 years old and the last thing you want to do is get the car stripped only to find you can't fit the new bits...

Are you buying new calipers or second hand? Second hand should include the hose fittings and carriers, but might need a clean up/service... this is what you're paying extra for with reconditioned ones...
