So, just to be clear, all the omegas will be included. But Tunnie's "filthy soot chucker" won't be.
Bwahahaha!
This should produce some forum rage :D

Only if you're daft enough to drive it in London, mind. ::)
-
True. But when there was talk of banning diesels from city centres it was all "London first then everyone will follow suit" type stuff. So who knows, it could be coming to a city near you ;).
-
good news is it only covers the congestion charge hours - 7am-6pm and the same area https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/congestion-charge/congestion-charge-zone
bad news is the separate ULEZ will likely be brought forward to 2019, operate 24 hours a day and cover all London inside the north and south circulars
-
Interesting. Any details on the ULEZ? I'd not heard of it before. Then again I'm a grubby midlander so not much interest in the boings on darn sarf.
-
fnark that shizz. Just get some diplomatic plates made up and do what ever you want just like most of the idiots in london. ::)

I think this is the bigger issues, I still sometimes use the 3.2 for work to give it a run after all the town work MrsT puts on it.
So all the talk about my dirty diesel, it's my Omega which will be banned first from my commute. ;D

Bristol is next then Birmingham :y

Quite right. Cars should be scrapped after 10 years.

They'll be alright in Lundun... black cabs and red buses are tourist attractions ;D
-
If they include this emmisions surcharge with LEZ, it means no Omega could commute inside to M25. Which means my old 2.2 or the 3.2 could not be used for work :(
As I had been toying with idea of selling the VW to fund a new mum bus for MrsT, keeping the 3.2 for work now I car share. But I can easily see them adding this charge to LEZ in 2019...
-
Official car share schemes might qualify for tax advantages, which could offset the charge costs :-\

It's official in that it's company recognised, we get better permits that allow us onto on-site car parks with dedicated lift share spaces. But the council/government are not involved, given how weakly it's policed within Sky I cannot see it applying for tax discounts or any kind of exemption.
-
Anything about car pooling on the ULEZ site?

Anything about car pooling on the ULEZ site?
Nope, also it would be too hard to police it as well. Having to submit info to prove you went to work and were sharing?
-
Bah, whole thing is ANPR managed... Lundun is tighter than a ducks arse in that respect.
-
my cam belt is due 2020, won't happen due this :'(

Yeah but they won't give me a free ticket to London just because I'm registered in car share at my employer.

2019 is going to be the year I think, LEZ with pre-2006 year surcharge. Then congestion charge zone as ULEZ.
So only 2 years away give or take :( depending when they action it.
We regularly go to Kingston Upon Thames in 3.2..... Well not for much longer!

Fixed that for you!

Reading the link, 81% of 15,000
celebrity labour supporters sandal wearing salad munchers vote for a bit of fresh air in the largest conurbation this side of Watford, and 'dangle berries' to what the other 10 MILLION Lundun residents want :o
No wonder they're pissed over Brexit... imagine what would happen if they could organise a knees up in a gin shop ;D
Anyhoo, reading the link, vehicles currently exempt from the congestion charge will also be exempt from this bright idea...
https://tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/6713.aspx
-
In London at the moment the whole place looks like a shit tip, piles of rubbish outside the restaurants , why they are worrying about vehicles beggars belief.

Motorbikes exempt... FFS...

I warned you all about this last year ::)

Could have told you that before you left the house ::)
-
Let's look at this positively.
The price of pre 2005 vehicle's has just plummeted, be lots of cheap cars available soon.
As for those who commute, or work in London. Never mind, deal with it.
The mayor should ban all vehicle's over 7.5 tonnes from within the M25.
-
I've banned myself from entering inside the M25. Its nasty, horrible, smelly, and all my snot turns black due to the diesel shit (taxis, buses and trains being the worse culprits). Why on earth anyone would want to go inside the M25 does perplex me, but I am just a simple country boy.
This self inflicted ban means work kindly relocated my headquarters back to the equally shitty, but far cleaner/fresher, Bletchley. Its just like London, has all the same issues as London, it just doesn't smell as much.
Anybody with a modern car got the MOT emmissions output from last MOT. Would be interesting to compare to my 19yr old, 233k 3l petrol...

Motorbikes exempt... FFS...
From memory, this is because the ANPR system reads both front and rear numberplates depending on which side of the carriageway a vehicle is traveling on. Hence it won't work for motorbikes. Plus it's not a freat idea discouraging them from the centre anyway.
-
They take up a lot less space than other vehicles, generally have smaller engines, and cause less pollution. They don't sit stationary in traffic jams as other vehicles do. And of course are much more fun than any other vehicle. Exemption seems sensible. :)
It takes me twice as long to cover the 70 miles to central London in my car as it used to do when I had a bike.
Summer isn't that far away and I'm getting tempted again. Must resist. ::)
-
Motorbikes exempt... FFS...
The problem with traffic in busy cities is the sheer amount of it that isn't moving. This causes gridlock, long delays in getting anywhere, and lots of emissions for which there was no worthwhile return. None of this applies to motorbikes, as they are only stationary at junctions, or as the result of a crash. If you can handle the risks involved, small motorbikes are the vehicle best suited to city use.
What is needed is a reduction in the number of vehicles that are using less than half their load capacity, whether that's just the driver in a four seater car, or a van with a few parcels in the back. This is so contradictory to the modern 'right' of everybody owning vehicles to go wherever they want, whenever they want, that a huge social change is the only effective solution. That is only likely to be caused by events that will have consequences greater than not being able to use your car

There's a hundred reasons to ban motorbikes from every bloody road. Not that there's any point in trying to convince motorbikeists/former motorbikeists of that though, so I shall not bother :P ;)

Don't count me as either one of those; I haven't been on a motorbike since June 1987 when I was 17. From the way that they ride, motorbikes do seem to attract a lot of antisocial idiots.

I tried my riding my Cousins Scooter when I was 12 (He was at work) having got it going, went straight through the closed wooden gate, across the car park, picked up more speed, coming up to a roundabout, up the kerb then hit a lamppost sideways. It soon dawned on me that you rarely see people falling out of cars going around roundabouts, so kinda stuck with that theory ever since. :-[ ;D

There's a hundred reasons to ban motorbikes from every bloody road. They are really really fast and very scary.
I admire your honesty. :y :D

I have always reasoned that I cannot fall off a car :D

Funny you should say that. I was a passenger in a car which had a big accident. The driver was thrown out of the car on the first impact and slid along the road on his arse watching his car smash itself to bits against dry stone walls and trees with me still inside it.
He had gravel rash on his arse, and I somehow managed to slice the top of my ear off. ;D

It seems obvious to me that you've had a few head traumas, mate. ;D
-
Funny you should say that..... ;D about 6 months before the aforementioned incident, I landed on my head after flying over the top of a set of traffic lights. Whacked the lights with my back on the way over the top and fubared a kidney. My right leg was already hanging off as a second earlier it had made contact with the rear end of a Hillman hunter ;D
I was an accident prone youth, but I enjoyed myself. :D

My God. You must date right back to the Victorian era. :)
Having said that I ran my fist moped into the back of a Sunbeam Alpine. I thought it was a Tiger and wanted a closer look. :-\ :D
-
Not quite. The Hillman hunter incident was 12th October 1976, just after pub kicking out time. ::)
Don't know why I remember that date after all these years. ::)

TFL confirmed today my 2001 omega v6 doesn't meet euro4 and is subject to the surcharge.
-
Only one Omega is Euro4 compliant...
2003 2.2 16v Manual.

Sounds like a perfect reason not to go to Londonium :y
-
Spent last weekend in London used the train there & back , wouldn't take a car to central London anyway so they can charge whatever they like. 😂😂😂

I'd prefer to drive, but as they make it hard/expensive, I'll just avoid the place :)
-
My daughter lives 50 yards outside the congestion zone. I think that means I will be ok for a couple of years and after that will have to pay TFL £10 for the privilege of driving down to pay her a visit. :(
-
Most of the cars I saw were real high performance ie Lambos Ferraris etc going back & forth along the main roads in Kensington, I know the owners want to show off but personally if I had a car like that I would want to be on a nice stretch of open road. Still think the nicest sounding one was the new 5.0 Mustang burbling away outside Harrods.
