Title: Mobile phones in prisons
Post by: annihilator on 23 February 2017, 13:14:04
Can't understand why prisons don't use the available jamming technology to sort this out. >:(

For a start, it's not legal and, secondly, it doesn't work.

I don't know why they don't just ban mobile phones. It's supposed to be secure, after all. ::)

Yes, but they won't want to come back for a return visit if the customer service  and hospitality is lacking.

Agreed. No need for escorts. It's easy to make new friends while taking a shower. :)

But still far too easy.  Granted, many cat A and cat B's are hard places...  ...but they tend to be reserved for more serious crimes.

After all, its supposed to be a deterrent, and anyone committing a crime warranting a custodial should be doing hard labour.

A former workmate of mine served 3 years for gbh. He told me the downside is the boredom. It was eased by games consoles etc. to while away the hours, but its still very boring.
My thought was that due to the fact he had inflicted life changing injuries on someone, he hardly had room to complain about being bored.
I didn't actually verbalise my thoughts though, as even in prison his nickname was pshyco.  ;D
Another former workmate served 12 years for murder. Even 10 years after his release he was still institutionalised.
At 9 pm each night he would go out to his garden shed, make a cup of tea, watch an hours TV, then go to slep in the bed he had in there.
He couldn't sleep indoors with the missus, as he couldn't sleep beside someone else, and the bedroom was far too big.
Eventually his Missus ran off with another bloke. Hardly surprising.  ::)

Shovelling concrete on pricework. It attracted a bit of a rough old crowd. Not a single O level between the lot of us. It wasn't a place for the faint hearted.  ;D

EE are offering a new mini micro almost invisible SIM card esp. for prisoners. I believe it's so small you can hide it in your japs eye.  :)

That's the trouble with these 'liberal types', only hard labour, where there are more effective 'permanent solutions'. :P

if it doesn't work then why isn't it legal  :P and legality wouldn't be an issue if officially sanctioned to prevent criminal activity.

Jammers don't really work over distance of more than a short distance, and there are health concerns.

Probably rigged femtocells from each provider might be a better option...  ...perhaps these are already in use for other reasons, rather than blocking though ;)
