Title: Engine light came on....
Post by: Bigron on 23 February 2017, 16:53:40
I am on a short break in Swanage for stress relief and on my way back from Weymouth this afternoon the engine symbol on the display came on, but there were no other signs of abnormality - it drove perfectly normally and temperature display, etc., were as per normal.
Back at Swanage, I hoped that switchingn off and back on again would put the light out, but no such luck.
Should I ignore it, or does it indicate am problem and Green Flag will have to take me back home?

Thanks,
Ron.

Thanks, Zirk, I've heard of the "pedal trick" but don't know what it is or how to do it - explain, please?

Ron.

Check the guides for the pedal trick.

My money is on the precat codes ;)

Ing. off. Brake and Throttle pedal fully down, Ing back on, the EML will flash 1 to 10 times each (10 being zero) write the codes down and look up the Code, its all in the Guide Ron, have a read as need to walk out of the door in a min or two.

Well, it looks like 0; 4; 3; 0 and all I can find in the Help files is 0;3;4;0 = camshaft sensor.
I could be wrong!

I think I'll treat it to a dose of "Cataclean" - it helps with the MOT, so maybe.....

Thanks gents, another OOF rescue!  :y

I know a bloke[not an Omega owner]who stuck a piece of insulating tape on the dash clocks to "cancel out"the warning light :o

Nah, but I'm related to Arfur lager.  :D
Thing is, the only proper cure is to move the Lamdas, and I'm not currently planning to do that. I can clear the code and put the light out, but it comes back the next day. Possibly due to the fact that I am now a pretty slow driver.
Get p1ssed off looking at the orange light, so just removed the bulb. Only takes 5 minutes to whip it out and put it back so it seemed sensible to me.  :)
Btw Ron. Is your car the dark grey Omega which is usually parked in Sauls Ave, (think ive got the right road) ?

No,Mig - it's a Star Silver (not a lot of them about!) 2.6 saloon living in Witham usually, but on holiday by the sea (Swanage) for one more day, then back home, fighting the Friday traffic.  :'(

No need, leave it alone long enough and it will blow ;) Saves a whole five minutes that could be better spent doing other things five times :D
