Title: The penalty for using a mobile phone while driving.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 01 March 2017, 12:56:23
I'm surprised there hasn't been more about this in the news.......or on this forum

Quite draconian really.

My opinion is that the person caught using a mobile should be banned & have their car crushed , absolutely nothing should take your concentration off the road.Far too many innocent people have lost their lives due to these idiots.

Same fate for anyone caught not paying attention while driving for any reason, I would hope (including kids, dogs, fiddling with the radio, eating, drinking, smoking..) :y

Not that there's any police on the roads* to catch anyone.

(*There are some, of course, but not enough)

Saw a bloke watching a movie on his phone (in a car mount) the other day .. and we weren't stopped in traffic, we were doing ~60 down the A45!

P.S. I can still play Candy Crush on my commute, right?

Being of a certain age I needed to google this.

I initially thought Candy Crush was big-titted  porn star from Texas or the like.

Guilty of all the above except using my phone. :)

It's a ban for you then Opti, but rather than crushing your car I think I'll look after it for you, FOC, of course.

Foreign lorry drivers are the worst for this, but if the Police targeted foreign truckers, the softcocks would accuse them of racial profiling, or something equally limp.  ::)

Sir Tig, Is a British 'softcock' directly comparable to an American 'limpdick'? :)

It would be a major feat of dexterity for me to even attempt to text whilst driving. I'd have to put my reading glasses on for a start....that would make the road all blurry.  ;D

What about points for the 'tard in a red Corsa I frequently follow to work. 3 separate gonks glued to his windscreen right in front of him, how can he see?

With handsfree devices available for £5, there is no excuse now. Apart from those ear pieces make you look gay of course.

In Vietnam it's common to see folk texting while riding their motorbike.   ::)

It's quite tricky.  I tried it once, dropped my phone and nearly fell off!  :-[  ;D

I've always had either fixed handsfree carphones or full handsfree car kits in every car I've had, proper kits aren't overly expensive imo.

Doubt very much they'd ban handsfree car kits as they'd also have to ban the emergency services from using their handsfree radio equipment...... and that's never going to happen!

Some other annoyances they need to tug people over for:

Driving too slowly - yes!
Driving with interior light on (believe this is illegal)
Tailgating
Owning a Citreon Cactus!

Tried to explain to a former Copper at work that using a two way radio is one of only two exceptions to the law... with the obvious caveat that if you crash as a direct result, then you still get done for failure to maintain proper control ::)

They insist on us carrying phones but not two way radios, which we have by the container load, and then grumble because we didn't answer promptly... no hands free in the vans ::)
