Title: Drill through a level sensor... possible?
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 09 March 2017, 15:42:52
I have an old level sensor laid about for experimenting. What would happen if I drilled through so as to put a nut and bolt with washers, so as to keep it in place?
Will it knacker the electronic magic bits? I assume so...

Do you mean thought the ball and socket to stop it popping off?

Hmm. I can't remember, although I've dismantled them in the past. I wonder if I've still got a butchered one in the garage?

I think the answer will be no, because I believe the moving arm bit has a ring shaped magnet which clips over the protruding part of the sensor base which contains a hall sensor, which might get miffed about being drilled. I'll double check if I can find an old one. :y

You can buy new balls, sockets and link rods which would make a permanent fix possible, but I'm miles from my box of bits for the company name.

I think the reference is the balljoint of the sensor arm to sensor, not the connecting rod :-\

Yes, this! I am thinking a great big bar with a nut and washer at each end to hold it in place.

Not like I have about two hundred other things to be getting on with... ;)
