i did one but you need to back flush it. with air gun, or could use air in a can if its got good pressure. but soak it in strong vinegar. might take a few goes but it did work for me.

I've spoken to a couple of mot testers, and they tell me headlamp washers are not a mot failure item.

They are a requirement if the car has HIDs, and so non working ones are a failure. That's why mine failed about 3 weeks ago.

Would a car with the "pop up" type washers have HID's?I know the pfl Elite I had some years ago had this type of washer, but didn't have HIDs and the nozzle part[the bit that sits above the bumper]could be pulled off the extending tube part.Whereas the f/l Elite I now have has HIDs but the washers don't "pop up.

I did the same when the headlamp washers seemed not to be working, and the tester stated mine, a 2003 3.2 Elite would not fail if they were not working. It was not a MOT failure issue. :)

Why don,t we have a MOT failure for dirty/unreadable rear no. plates? Or, fit a washer on that as well :-X

Incorrect Al.

No pre MFL cars have HIDs. PFL Elites do have washers though.

MFL MV6 and Elites have HIDs with washers.

FL MV6, CDX and Elites have HIDs with washers.

Were xenon lights not invented pre '97 then ???

Matters not, HIDs and Xenon are completely and totaly different ....

Xenon is a gas, and can be in a bulb of any voltage, just like sodium, helium, halogen etc etc etc that will prevent an incandescent light (glowing filament) from oxidising and going "pop" .. they are still filament bulbs.  The use of xenon gas as a protector allows the filament to run hotter thus providing more white light ... the filament is "white hot"

HID's are High Intensity Discharge lights that work off a high energy (voltage) to "strike" an electric arc that gives off the light, the fact that the gas in the "bulb" might be xenon is by-the-by but is what causes the confusion.

So you can have xenon bulbs that work off 12 volt and the gas just protects the glowing wire, or xenon HIDs where the gas is an inert vehicle to contain the electric arc running at thousands of volts and help form the "plasma" field that makes the light

HTH

EDIT

Kind of muddying the waters given that they're essentially the same thing on the Omega ::) the choice being vanilla halogen or xenon with ballasts...

A projector lens design does not a HID make...

As for cleaning ...............

Remove from bumper.
Bung the outlet end up and fill with Cilit Bang or similar.
Leave overnight then pop round to your local garage.
Ask nicely if you can borrow there airline with blower nozzle and blast air threw them against the normal water flow.
This should blow out any shite and gunge in there then refit  :y

Not on an Omega, no. Halogens only, including Elites and Plod (retail MV6 wasn't invented either)

OK, if the car is pre '97 with halogens, then simply remove both washers and unplug the pump, and don't worry about it as the MoT won't cover them.

Post '97 with Xenons/hids/anything BUT halogen, then soak it in some coke/bicarb/vinegar/household descale of choice and get it working as the MoT WILL cover it ;)

If halogen lamps are fitted headlamp washers can be defective as they are not part of the mot test

If we are talking xenon/hid lamps disconect the pipes pull the fuse unplug the pump etc if they don't work they can not be tested and the benefit of the doubt must be given.
If one jet works and the other doesn't it is a obvious defect and can fail the mot.

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.   Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems.  In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

Benefit of doubt is a touch optimistic  ::)

Re washers, they either spray or they don't... puffs of spray above the bonnet line, as viewed from the drivers seat are a give away.

Likewise, the leveling function does a self test when the lights are first switched on... any issues and an error message/light is displayed. Also any clearly detached linkages or missing parts when the chassis is inspected will be plain to see.
