Chatting to our window cleaner this morning , wants to buy a car for his son who had his old mini stolen a few weeks ago.
Turns out one of his customers old fella has a MK1 Escort 1300 XL 1975 with just over 35,000 miles from new , the old chap has been advised to give up driving due to health issues .The car apparently looks excellent has been serviced regularly asked me what I think is a fair price, as the old boy wants £1250 for it , my answer was if you don't want it at that price tell me where it is and I'll buy it.

Too right , snap that up .. worth a fortune :y

Yep, like you could up your money ten fold by selling it the next day. :o

I was going to say about £4000 but was dumbstruck when he said £1250 !

Somewhat immoral/unethical to steal from a pensioner, don't you think? :(
Ron.

No. Money's no good to him, he's going to die soon anyway ;D ;D ;D

:o :o :o

Do the right and tell the old fella what it,s really worth.
-
He's bought it now , took his son to see it who is apparently "over the moon" with it. Glad he got it as he had been working on his mini for about 3 years till some thieving individual stole it, the seller was happy to get what he paid for it 42 years ago, and has known the lad & his family for several years.
-
Well he'd better lock that one up good and proper, cause it won't be around long if he doesn't.
-
Hmmm..... ::)

Don't do it, Ron, you're too big for an escort anyway. ;D

.
It amazes me what people will steal, especially something unusual going to get noticed, suppose the mini will be in bits by now, stolen from cinema car park.

Very true. Strong demand for anonymised Escort body shells as so many get killed rallying, and they aren't exactly difficult to steal. Might be prohibitively expensive for a young lad to insure as a result. :-\

STEMO, my "Hmmm" was one of disapproval; I still think the buyer took advantage of the old chap's naivity - as the car had appreciated in value, just getting back his original purchase price is endearingly innocent - but the purchaser was not! >:(
Ron.

Let's look st the facts here, Ron.
Window cleaner is offered an old escort which he thinks his son might like to replace his stolen mini. He has no idea of its value and when he asks someone else, i.e. Tilbo, he is told 'if you don't want it, I'll have it'. Decides to buy car and gives it to his son, with no thought of turning a quick profit.
Nothing wrong with that.

If you found a gem of a buy at a car boot sale, and the seller just happened to be old, would you offer the price you thought it might be worth, or give her a quid and run?
-
That is hardly the situation here and you know it. You have your morality and I have mine.....
Ron.

I think it's exactly the situation here.

Good luck to the lad , the old boy would never have sold it to a stranger has known Paul the father for years so everyone is happy. Would I have bought it ? No had one back in the seventies like a bit more comfort now.😉
