Title: Shock absorber tower fail
Post by: MonzaGSE on 11 April 2017, 08:16:21
Girlfriend complained her Omega made alot of clunking noises on the way home from work last  night. Rear Shock has gone throught the top of the tower! Are repair panels available?

Don't think so, sadly. It happened to my daughter's car 2 years ago. After seeking advice, I scrapped the car.

Shock tower actually consists of three panels. In theory, you could remove the one from a donor car and replace like for like... At a guess the top mount reinforcement and top 5% of the tower panel have cracked/rotted away from the rest of the tower plate.

Remove the boot trim and the design becomes self explanatory ;)

Have removed the carpet now and it looks surprisingly good. Damage seems to be only the top reinforcement ripped of the rest of the tower as you said. Apart from the shockabsorber-sized Hole on the top, the rest looks healthy. Found a decent looking omega FL at the wreckers today and theyre gonna cut out the tower from that for me tomorrow. Got an appointment at the local garage tuesday after easter since i dont weld. With the car and the extra tower hopefully they can patch it back together. Since my girlfriend is now driving my mv6 estate and i got stuck driving this:

Lots of them go rusty there.

Most people don't notice until it either knocks or they get water in the boot/spare wheel well and start investigating.

Finally solved this and this omega is back on the road. Cut out a replacement tower from a car at a junk yard and found a local garage that welded it back together for 1500kr(150£). Happy days:)
