CLEAN UNDERPANTS PLEASE ! (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/driver-very-lucky-after-incredible-12872060) :o

:o :o :o :o Christ on a bike! That would get the heart going..
-
Holy shit! :o :o :o Dunno about the heart, it would definitely get the sphincter twitching!! ;D
-
Fudge me backwards :o.
That could have ended differently, and wasn't what I was expecting when the video started :o

Chuffin Nora!
That's the road just out of Llandovery where I very nearly got caught speeding by an unmarked rozzer on a motorbike the first weekend I had my M140. Great road :)
Had I been going through there at the same moment as the truck driver in that vid, the last thing going through my head would have been my own ar$e!
-
Another couple of feet and it would certainly have been different I think! That's just what you don't need to see while out for a drive :o

Yep A40 between Llandovery and Carmarthen. A lethal stretch of road, 3 killed in the last week. The drivers are effin nutters, I don't mean teenage turbonutters in hot hatches, I mean everyone, even old farmers. They overtake in places I wouldn't even think about it. I don't give a toss if they kill themselves, but if me or my Mrs is driving the other way . . . it matters
When I moved down here I had it in mind to do a car downsize. You know something small, sensible, and economical. Due to the insane driving, we didn't. Mrs drives a Volvo 940. If something hits her headon on the way to her music lessons she may stand a chance. Of course the Spanish truck driver was just plain wrong, and even a 940 would have been useless.
-
We chatted about this recently and the conclusion was that you're safer in a modern hatch than an old tank like a Volvo 940. ;)
Best get out and buy Mrs Rog a Smart car! :y ;D

Just not sure about that, I see a lot of very flat small cars around.
About a year ago two cars with young turbonutters were playing silly buggers on a local country road. One ovetakes the other and smacks headon into a lady in an big Audi coming the other way. Two young lads killed, lady not too badly injured. Sorry I think that size does matter. Incidentally everyone was "Oh poor things" about the lads, I know a mate of theirs. However, they were idiots and deserved it. Just glad the Audi lady did ok. Due to the aweful driving round here, I would actually consider the biggest 4x4 I could get ! I never thought I would ever say that.

Different road, and North wales, but an example . . . . .

Yup, my parents lived 5yrs in Myddfai, just up the hill from Llandovery, the local farmers seem to like 47mph, regardless of: other traffic, weather, road conditions , speed limits etc. One of the nearest near misses I've ever had was just a mile up the road from there. Pair of tourists parked right on the apex of a blind bend, in a 15yr old corsa. I damn nearly ended them all. :o
The motorcyclists are actually some of the better ones, at least they're usually travelling quick enough to be out the way and at least if they get it all wrong they're usually only a danger to themselves.
Parents were planning on getting rid of the P38 Range Rover - after a week down there, they weee keeping it. ;D

But, for a given safety level of car, size does matter...

I have a big issue with the NCAP in that it uses the car's velocity (and therefore energy) vs stationary objects. As does the smart car vid, run across a yummy mummy in her Q7 in your smart car, and you'll wish you hadn't ;D

Granted a 2017 Discovery 4 would be safer than a 2003 Discovery 2. ::)

Indeed. Larger cars dissipate more energy to get a certain NCAP rating, In an accident, energy input isn't just a function of your car's weight and speed.

You can't change the laws of physics if you crash 2 movable objects together (not what crash tests do) the heavier one will continue on its path to a much greater degree than the lighter causing a more viloent change of velocity and direction for those in the lighter. Clearly won't help you if the passenger cell in the heavier disintegrates though.

And by now won't 940's be 50% rust, 50% metal? It does rain a lot in Wales, after all..

Nope. No rust that I'm aware of and no advisories on recent MOT :y It'll probably outlast me

Hmmmm, I take your point about modern design. However, I'f I'm driving along a road very similar to the one in the video and a Range Rover, big pickup, or something suddenly appears thumping along towards me. What would I rather be driving ?
So, I've concluded that I would need even bigger than a Discovery

Remove the fifth wheel and you'll probably be able to squeeze it under 7.5t 8)

Most LR products have an interesting outcome of an impact with a standard car... If it's corner to corner the wheel will almost certainly be ripped off (if it's a big enough hit of course) :-X

That road is well used most weekends by many bikers, mostly at max rev's,there,s usually heavy police presence on this( A class ) country lane.

See, there is mileage in the mass cull. Weed 'em out before they hurt someone else :P
