Looked on fleabay for a bearing and found the above for £27. Anyone any experience of these? Can get a Lucas from CPL for about £32.

Bought two no name bearings on e bay -22 Euro- two years ago. No problems with that.
The problem is the assembling. It was the only work on my omegas I ordered in a workshop.
I do everything on your Omega, but rear bearings never again. Masters famous last words... ;)

It's not that bad a job, although better(simpler, like a Granada) design would have made it much easier.
Removal of the hub is the worst part of the job.
Changing the bearing itself is easily accomplished with common bearing tools.
Pulling the hub through the new bearing can be done with its own nut and a couple of suitably sized spacers; slotted or bored out inner bearing races work well.
And then you have to torque the nut to 300Nm under the car, which can be awkward.
It's a 2 hour job with the car on axle stands.

Did the passenger rear last year using the lucas. With Nicks advice I managed to do the job so am confident I can do the other side a bit quicker even. The Lucas seems fine. I noticed a bit of a wobble on the car last week and checked the bearings today. Passenger side is fine as expected but driver side has some movement top to bottom but none side to side. This was not evident last year or I'd have done them both at the same time.

If its anything like their front wheel bearings, they are complete utter shite. In fact worse.

Due to the imminence of the MOT which I fear could be the death knell for the old girl I didn't want to spend too much, well anything really. :)
So I found another website (buycarparts.co.uk) who do a bearing kit for £21 delivered.
I have probably bought something worse (Vaico) than the Continental direct. Who knows, probably the same. :(
Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes.

Bol****cks! Damaged the thread on the hub while removing. This one was a real pita. My brother-in-law is going to see if he can salvage it, but if he can't has anyone got a spare hub I can buy? Rear estate 2002. Can be sent by Hermes as there is someone here all the time. :)

I had a real nightmare, last year, as my health prevents me from trying myself..... so garage it was, £400 and 2 days, they said "never again"

Sourced a new hub from (buycarparts.co.uk) £42 delivered. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the retaining nut which I think may also be damaged. Will try the nut for a smooth action when the hub arrives. Vauxhall Carmarthen say the hub and associated nut is now discontinued which I find odd. :-\ The nut appears to be 24mm with 1.5mm pitch. Anyone know how I can get this re-tapped if I cant find a new one?

All the ones I've done have had a new nut supplied with the bearing. If yours came like that, is the original hub nut any good?

im suprised he found a rear hub aftermarket .surely they are a non wear item as such and i would have thought only gm would sell them.also regards the bearing.continental direct ones are only £13 on ebay and fag ones at £32 .various others .it appears some come with the locking tab and some with the nut although the pictures may be generic

Just been emailed by the company. Item out of stock. They are contacting manufacturer to see when new stock will be available and if there is an alternative :'(

Fag, come with a new tab, but no nut.
. that makes sense seeing as the locking tab and bearing are realy the only wear items.and a new circlip for good measure. hopefully someone on here will have a rear hub and / or nut if youre struggling.

This has turned into a bit of a saga:
German company said delivery expected September!
Bought a swinging arm and hub assembly for £40 from an online breakers.
What a PITA! Flange was on incredibly tight. Bent the homemade strap and 16mm bolt tool I have used on 2 previous occasions. Straightened it out in the vice. Reapplied and then re tensioned, but not so tight it would bend again. Rotated flange and hit with the big hammer all the way around. A bit of movement each time enabled the flange to come off. Removing the hub after that wasn't too bad: I found I could use some 8mm bolts through the handbrake adjusting hole and wheelnut threads into the spline nuts of the dust cover. I tensioned with a nut the other side. Put the big nut back on the hub and with a piece of wood to protect the threads give it a whack. Re tensioned the 8mm bolts and it came off fairly easily for me.
So now breaker hub is on the car. A bit worried about how difficult it will be to get the flange back on it's spline but that's for tomorrow. :(

WHY does it seem that there must be a "secret recipe" for doing the rear bearings?..... Unless I was been taken for a ride by my MOT garage, who have all the gear, pits, 3 ramps etc, and I was going to them for an oil change and timing belt fitting, they will probably turn that into a weeks work, and charge me a months wages for the privilege :( cheaper to get a new car lol, and scap the Omega

there isn't a secret recipe, it's just that many technicians make a meal of it. Some thought and simple tooling is all that's necessary to do the job efficiently.

Your right Nick. I prefer to do the work on my car if I can. I enjoy thinking my way around problems,..., and then asking the forum to solve them for me!!. Certainly, you need an array of tools to do this job but they are pretty cheap in comparison to getting a garage to do the work.
Also, unless you buy a brand new car then you are likely to be buying someone elses problems. Better to spend a bit on a car that you know and like :y.
