Title: Car Insurance Renewal
Post by: MikeDundee on 30 April 2017, 06:25:37
Yes this old chestnut again, that time of year when renewal notice comes through ::), came through yesterday and low and it has went up from last year by over £100, to £699, this includes a couple of optional extras, legal, hire car, accident cover £64.60. Changed to LV two years ago when the quoted £525, lowest ever had the insurance at, normally been paying anything between £700/£800 over the years but keep shopping around as usual like I did yesterday, could not get any lower than LV and had some ridiculously stupid quotes in excess of 2k to 3k, AVIVA was the only one that could match the LV quote, suppose I could knock off the optional extras and get it down to £635 ::). Oh and this is not registered as your standard omega as I have to include the extras; lowered suspension, full body kit, SS exhaust, interior changes etc.. So looks like I will just be staying with LV.

As (at last renewal) I had 3 cars, its been interesting over the years to see how each has changed.  Both Omegas (declared mods) have slowly dropped, though the MV6 had really hit a lower ceiling of about £170 (20k pa, Business, FC). The Zafira has actually climbed most years.

But I do think £700 is outrageous, when you consider they will likely never pay more than that for any claim.

I stuck with Admiral this year with the Z, it went up from £599 (mods declared, mileage limited to 8k) to £638, the next nearest was over £800 and some silly quotes 2k and over.

Even though my policy is NCD protected, I am dreading the new premium quote in February 2018 following my little prang! :P :P

Mine is actually free this year :y In fact, they're paying me about £100 :o

Well... The truth is that the broker cocked up last year and didn't apply my no claims so I've actually already paid it ;) But free sounds better!! :y ;D

There's been a recent change in the law that insurance companies have to state last years premium on the renewal notice.  Which is good for me as I always forget what I paid last year and end up searching bank statements to compare.  ::)  ;D

Have you considered reducing the annual mileage Mick?

Just renewed all three of mine....the lowest was the 2.5 estate at £251, including legal cover etc etc. Swmbo is named driver on all three.
Three years ago, they quoted £528, but I told them where to stick it, but they then checked my circumstances..was I still working, was swmbo working, annual mileage, etc. Dropped it to £225. so basically has gone up £25 in three years. Protected NCB, so can't really complain :y This is via a broker, who always gives alternative options. :y

Last year ... £251.44 .....  this year .. £260.38   Not too shabby .. fully comp, protected no-claims, both of us as drivers, body kit, towbar, LPG conversion, stainless exhaust, all as modifications. :)

its the compo claim from the bus full of footballers/lawyers etc they are worried about.

Am now somewhat p*****d off .. :(

Phone up to make a minor change .. Chris's occupation from part time teacher to retired .. just to keep it all legal and accurate .. and the premium goes UP by £50.00 to £310.00 !!!!!!!!!  :(  Just how the hell do they justify that ??  :-\

Quick on-line check and still the same problem .. on-line systems will not accept the LPG / Body kit conversions and ALL require the lengthy and pointless  telephone calls... and the first two ?? One was £630.00 the other was "unwilling to quote" .. so I guess I'm stuck with where I am...

When she gets in I'll tell her she's going back to work ..... wonder how that will go down !!!!!!!!!   :)

Just how the hell do they justify that ??  :-\

One would imagine because their algorithms say that retirees statistically have more (expensive) accidents than teachers..

Tis the down-side of deciding 'risk' by statistics; you can get clobbered by the collective actions of everyone else :/
