Title: Hose Clamp Pliers
Post by: grifter on 09 May 2017, 22:49:57
What hose clamp pliers do you need for those hosp clamps on the back of the plastic breather for the V6? I know you could just use tie wraps to replace but I like to keep the original clamps where possible.

I can remove them by pushing one side of the clamp sideways with a screwdriver and it pops it open, but for the life of me can't get them to clip shut again without some sort of special tool.

Spoke too soon, I think these are the ones:

Click R type pliers. It's the same ones for driveshaft securing clips.

Google 'hose-clamp pliers', you want the ones that are Clic compatible. Expect to pay about £20.
On a breather you could use a cable-tie instead, the other hoses need a proper clamp like a Jubilee clip. You could even use one of the ghastly spring clamps that manufacturers like for various reasons that are irrelevant the first time the parts are disassembled.

I use a small pair of pincers and mini long nosed pliers for that job - when the 'r' section has located, I just align the two sections together with the same tools. I've never had a problem popping them apart carefully (without damaging the hose) with a twist using a thin bladed screwdriver whilst taking the pressure off with the pincers.

Likewise I just use cable cutters carefully.

Probably should get the right tool one day.  :-\

Got a pair of those pincer R clip pliers. Will also help with the clips on the cavy driveshaft boots.
