perhaps unkindly I "read" that Macron went to see Merkel to get his instructions!
Anyway the European press is full of Macron's reconstruction ideas for a more integrated Eurozone to combat populism

Spain are also pushing the same ideas.

Unsurprisingly Merkel is lukewarm to the idea as Germany will have to pay. However I suspect she will be more supportive once she is re elected. (Just my take).
What does the team think? Good thing? bad? should have done it ages ago?

Not sure what to make of Macron. Time will tell.
Probably a better choice than the 'crazed French bint' Marine Le Pen though.

I'm working just north of Lyon this week (25 degrees, azure blue skies, in case you were wondering ;D) so I've had the opportunity to talk to a few locals about the Macron situation, and it has been most enlightening.
I think his success will ultimately be down to his ability to broker deals, with no traditional party backing its the only way he will get anything done. He seems to be going about it the right way and it seems to have certain sections of the population very energised, but on the other hand, France is extremely conservative (small c) when it comes to its political machinations. Too early to call IMO.
Le Pen really exposed her ignorance in the debates running up to the 2nd round of voting so, in that respect, I think Macron is a good choice as, regardless of her political leanings, Le Pen seemed ill-equipped to actually do the job.
As to the closer integration in Europe, arguably I think it has to be done if the European project is to survive. A lot of its current issues are down to the half-way house it currently occupies regarding the €. It is fundamentally disingenuous to say that €1 in a Greek or Spanish bank is worth the same as €1 in a German bank - which is a cornerstone of the whole European concept. I think it would have already been done

If it was capable of fundamental reform , it would have already done so, most probably when the Greek crisis was at the top of all the worlds news bulletins. The thirst for power, to be at the top table of a global power, to be The United Stes of Europe, has blinded the federalists to their folly.
It will all crash down around their heads. Its only a matter of time.
Macron will be Merkels puppet before too long, and then the French people will hate him as much as they hated Hollande after they elected him.
