Title: A rarity?
Post by: BazaJT on 31 May 2017, 19:05:20
Walking the dog this evening and a car came by[looked a minter]they were never very popular-round here anyway-and those that were round here seemed to go from mint to bean can fodder in about 30seconds flat.It was a bright red Chrysler Neon, not seen one of those in ages, can't be many left surely?

Like any budget PoS, never loved, so soon drop to banger prices, then promptly sold for scrap

I recall looking into one when they were new, not an expensive car to buy but had some mega-stupid maintenance costs for things like cam-belt changes .......

Saw a Chrysler 180 recently. Time has not been kind to the 180/2litre. :-X

Yeah they are rare.

I always liked the crossfire

Is this the one that resembles a dog taking a dump?

Just had to google the Neon, what a total dog egg!  ;D

Yes mate. That was the appeal  ;D

Don't know now whether to feel very very old that someones had to google Neon to find out what one looks like or whether it goes to show how rare they were/are :D ;D ;D ;D

Its fair to say Chrysler have had some shockers. I trust we all remember the PT cruiser.  :o

My biggest problem with the crossfire actually isn't the outside. Rather, like all American cars, the interiors are nasty plastic sh!te  :P

I'd go with rarity. After all I remember both the ford probe and the sad-eyed Scorpio. Which were about the same time.

It's worse than just American; it's recycled Mercedes mechanicals made to American 'standards'.

The PT Cruiser is basically a Neon underneath, which is hardly a recommendation ;D

Actually, I don't have a problem with american standards, on American cars. In the US you can buy a 4wd pickup, with leather, all the toys and a big v8 for about £23-25k. And you can have it on 60months 0% finance. For that kind of money, the material quality being sh!t isn't a problem. It's when they bring them over here and try to charge proper money for them that I have an issue with it.

All I remember of the PT cruiser is replacing a metal pipe to the water pump that had corroded. And it was the biggest arse of a job I've ever had.

And it looks shite.  :y

Many years ago, Mrs. KW was on an episode of some used car programme which featured a PT Cruiser, Honda Jazz and a Hyundai Coupe. (She was in the market for an MX 5 so go figure). ::)

Anyway, to stop me dying of boredom while filming they gave me the keys to each of the cars to go and rag around Manchester. Suffice it to say that the Hyundai Coupe was by far the best car of the line-up and the only one I would have taken away if they gave it to me.

The PT Cruiser looked impressive initially, as it had all the bells and whistles. Then I noticed the build quality. Then I started the nasty gruff little 4 pot. Then I drove off and made it actually do some work. Then I tried to negotiate a bend. As it no longer appeals to fashion victims, it isn't going to appeal to anybody. ;D

Same here. Been very tempted as they tend to be quite cheap.

A bit odd looking, but with some appeal - a bit like me  ;D

While it's not my cup of java by any stretch I do believe the PT Cruiser has quite an active owners club.
