Title: door strap to A pillar
Post by: robson on 12 June 2017, 12:44:12
What is the answer to fix a door strap where the weld is failing between the strap bracket and the A pillar. I assume welding but I believe there are cables inside the pillar.Any other methods tried?

obviously welding is the ideal solution but as you say there are wires behind plus theres the mess caused by the heat which would need re painting.other options i can think of are 5mm drill and tap or nut and bolt. or a 5mm rivet but use stainless rather than alumuinium for strength. other peoples solutions  to pop up shortly !

Nut and bolt repair won't work.  You would simply be Boltongate the bracket to the door pillar where it is already welded rather than fixing the problem.

Remove the kick panel and cubby hole, then remove any foam stuffing from the pillar and place a thin ply board between the door seal and bracket and weld it up.

Belts and braces will see the autobox and locking ecus removed and the door loom unplugged and pulled to one side inside the pillar, but never did this with mine.
