when doing motorway speeds there is a definite shake on the steering. should I start with a wheel balance check ?
-
I'd say so, yes. Start with the basics :)
Also, just 1/100 chance (but well worth checking) - check all your wheel studs are done up... :)
-
Not only that, you could have a mishapen rim
I had new boots and the bloke told me one was out of shape, so got it placed on the rear, no shake and no brake pull

shake at certain speeds which goes away when you speed up or slow down, is a good indicator that your wheels need balancing.
-
First of all, is it more pronounced at certain speeds? On Omega, around 40-50mph, with just wheel shake, tends to be front balancing (or damaged wheels/tyres), around 80-95mph with a shake you feel through the seat tends to be rear.
More random steering wheel wobble, often more under braking (but too random to be warped discs) tends to be front wishbone bushes.
