So now this inept Labour Government of ours that is so short of cash to help reduce fuel costs by reducing taxes, or contributing more to the people's services of our country, is "investing" £3 Billion of OUR money in a failing business, Northern Rock! :o :o :o :o :o>:( >:( >:(
As I have stated in other threads the Cabinet ministers have so little true, major business experience that they casually decide to use this amount of money to prop up a business whose business is fast becoming worthless - 1/2 year loss £600,000,000; 116,000 fewer mortguage customers, customer arears UP 163% Yr on Yr, etc!!!
No major company board of directors would invest £3 billion in a business with this balance sheet, which will NEVER give a good return, if any, but our band of bandits have!
But I suppose that is easy.....it is not their money! >:( >:( >:(
It all makes me so £&!*%ing mad!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
.....I thought that rant would calm me down.......but no, i am still as angry!! >:( >:( >:(
What a load of unprofessional GB Ltd business leaders we have in this bunch of politicans! Whens that revolution?!!

Yes after the Government have made such a mess of the economy
to cause the problems, now they will be indirectly involved in taking away your home if you are struggling! Some Socialist Government this one!!! >:(

Totally out of their depth. As said, actions that would be suicidal in business. A bit like leaking rumours that you're going to abolish / suspend / defer stamp duty to wake up the housing market and then say... but we're not going to announce anything until the autumn, maybe later?
What would I be doing if I had any desire to dabble in the housing market right now? Yep. I'd be siiting on my hands "until the autumn". So, it'll have the opposite effect. It will kill the housing market stone dead until the government get pressganged into doing it anyway. Anyone who had spent a week of their life in business would have seen that one coming. >:(
This government needs to learn then when they pull an idea like this out of their @rses they need to sit on it until it's officially happening. The tabloid media are running this country otherwise - about the only people less qualified to do so than the wasters in Parliament. >:(

Good one Kevin! If it wasn't all so serious this would be hugely funny!
Why do they think that a saving of £2,000 on a £200,000 house will make a difference?! This is a desparate measure by a bankrupt Government!! >:(

A slowing house market will bring prices down, which will be a much greater force toward keeping it moving than a bit of meddling with stamp duty, if the economic climate can support a house market at all.
The confusion they create by spinning so much bullsh1t, on the other hand, is very damaging. Would I delay moving a few months to see if I could save a couple of grand? Maybe. Depends how much I wanted to move. It's certainly not going to improve matters, at any rate.

Totally agree Kevin! :y
The problem is now so huge that a full serious business plan with a strategy is now required instead of 'playing' with the problem, but the Government are not capable of undertaking such an exercise even to save themselves! >:(

They should never have gone up as they did.
They brought the interest rate down, some house prices doubled in some cases, Was all looking good as unemployment dropped and the country was on a roll.
Stupid thing is, nobody planned ahead s usal.
History repeats itself.
This time it's Newton's law in reverse.
Inevetably when the Government put something down, eventually it will go back up again. Then all the problems follow.

There is no shortage of money in this country. Not when we can supply £10million for mosquito nets, legal aid for foreign prisoners to sue our prison service, write £3billion in DWP overpayments off, employ cotton nappy outreach co-ordinators, give alcoholics money every day for drink etc etc. I bet OOF members can think of lots of other worthy causes as well.

Tony Blair (and Cherie even more so!) must be laughing his socks off at this total shambles that is the government and Brown in particular within a year of him leaving office.

Im a northern rock mortgage customer.....aint done me no flaming good. >:(

what amazes me is that government genuinely believe that by reducing interest rates or abolishing stamp duty they will automatically restart the economy.
When are they going to realise that there is a large portion of the country who now do not have a disposable income, they have over extended themselves so much that they have nothing left with which to pay back what they owe.
Reposessions are on the up, personal bankruptcies are on the up, IVA's requests have gone through the roof and people seeking advice from specialist agencies such as citizens advice or consumer credit counselling service have now got so bad these people have waiting lists!!!!
The economy will not recover until most of this debit has been paid back or the financial organizations recover from the loss due to their customer declaring bankruptcy.....so we could be looking at this gong on for at least 5 years!!!!!
what have the government done......the square root of F.A.

;D ;D ;D got to laugh coz crap like that make my blood BOIL - when times are hard everyone tightens the purse strings apart from council's/local government they just carry on inventing BS positions for the sake of it - bloody do-gooders.
