Title: Blowing exhaust
Post by: Pmacca2000 on 28 October 2017, 17:59:56
over the past few weeks I’ve been driving around thinking the Omega sounded a bit louder than useual, mostly when at cruising speed.
I thought it was just me until the other week when I started her round at a mates house and he commented that she sounded a bit throaty.
Knowing there’s a couple of dents in both down pipes, the centre box sounds like a charity tin and the shealding is braking around both cats so I’m thinking she’ll need a complete system.
Any one on here got experience of costed etc, I did see a compleat system at £1000 for parts alone?

Gold plated, was it?

If dpwn pipes are dented but otherwise o.k. and not affecting performance leave well alone-possibly sourced used ones if they're not prone to rot failure? Not sure whether the shielding around the cats that you mention is vital but if so again try and source good used ones rather than aftermarket.Cat back system[for a V6] available ETS/Eternal are under a hundred quid.

I suspect that good used cats for an Omega are like Rocking Horse poo these days.  :-\

To the OP: don't opps about, a new system is about £100 and new cats are less than that each. If you're gullible enough to fall for the GM only 'dangle berries', then start saving.

Used exhaust components are only good for filling the bin

If only there was a tolerable aftermarket cat available for the v6. I've yet to come across one.

What about the ones fitted to my black estate? Not sure you spent much time around it though :-\

That's because you worry too much. The rest of the world just buys stuff, fits it and gets on with something important. The £70 Ebay special I fitted 3(4?) years ago is fine. Main buying criteria was delivery time.

I know she’s hit something in the road at a pace to dent one down pipe reducing its efficacy, I’m not sure how this has impacted performance as it’s the original system from the factory.
I thought the fella on line was optermistic about the price, double what I expected and by the sound of it far more than anyone on here would expect to pay.

Not really, I can't be dealing with the god awful droning from the el-cheapies I've heard on members' cars.

So my main criteria is (lack of) noise from it...  ...assuming its actually good enough not to affect performance.

And the drone is always worse at constant revs - usually when your driving on a motorway.... Which is absolutely useless then for about 85% or my driving!

I beg to differ. Over a certain speed that noise tends to quieten down.. until you reach your destination. ;)

Trouble is, I've found as the years have progressed, that threshold speed has increased dramatically. Oh well  ;D
