Realised this morning whilst ploughing through the fields to work :-X that i now have a genuine field legal LPG vehicle.
I had forgotten pretty much about that as getting it fixed took priority.
I`ve also realised i know nothing about LPG.
Got many embarrasing questions....can anyone help :-[
How do you actually fill it with LPG, I presume the nozzel at source must screw into my LPG Filler neck ? :-/ rather than just sit in it?
How do you LPG`ers actually drive - i have a 2 mile journey to work and am using the Jeep right now, is it actually worth switching to LPG ( ie how soon do you switch to LPG once started the enginer on petrol)
Is there anything to service on the LPG kit, idle is spot on but wondered if there was anything i should do as a matter of routine?
Worked out i will get about 33mpg on LPG from the Jeep ::) So its more economical than the Jag for about town driving..

Only real service item is the filter...
Switch over is usually at about 25 degrees, but some will switch from cold!

Filter worth doing as a routine matter - dont know of it being done before?
Tried to start it on LPG and it did start but then cut out, it also switches fine to LPG from petrol on first start in the morning.....albeit its a bit rought for a few minutes..
Just wondered about best practise :-/
-
Best practice is don't run on gas until the engine is fully up to temperature :y

I`ve just found this online > http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/how.html
Is it that complex to fill up? Also i dont recall seeing any form of adaptor in the Jeep, or being given one, does this mean i cant fill with LPG? How easy will it be to get an adaptor ? :(
-
That's making a bit of a meal of it, but essentially that's how it's done. You shouldn't need an adaptor because your filler should be a UK one already and compatible with UK pumps.
It's easy once you've done it once or twice. :-[

Could do with an 'LPG how to' ::)

So i just turn up at the send SWMBO to LPG station and Bobs your Uncle ?
I do know that it looks like theres a "male" adaptor on the neck of the filler under neath the cap and its certainly threaded :-/
-
It's threaded (on the inside) to allow adaptors to be connected if you travel overseas. The UK fillers use a couple of bayonnet pins on the outside of the filler.

LPG - how to fill up
1. drive onto forecourt and align car as per petrol
2. remove dust cap from LPG filler point on vehicle
3. carefully take in hand the LPG delivery nozzle.
4. the LPG delivery nozzle is shaped like a coke can, and this is aligned with the valve and gently pushed over the valve (about and inch or so)
5. then gently turn the the coke can nozzle clockwise about 2 inches (or 30 degrees) until it locks (it will turn no further)
6. you will probably wonder what the rubber/silicone skirt is all about - well its to prevent you from getting a cold burn when you release the nozzle on completion. (Health and safety)
7. either a clamp behind the skirt or a large trigger with locking clip will secure the delivery nozzle onto the valve. (no LPG is delivered yet)
8. walk accross to the button (yes you must depress a button on the LPG pump to deliver LPG) unfortunately you must keep it depressed in most cases >:(
9. it takes a lot longer to fill LPG than petrol - aching fingers - yes
10. the LPG will simply stop when it has filled your tank - or release the button and it will stop.
11. walk back to the nozzle and release either a. the trigger or b. the clamp.
12 jump three foot in the air with a startled look on your face as the little bit of gas in the nozzle is released into the air MUI RAPIDO
13. replace the dust cap
14. pay in the normal way for your fuel - notice as you walk into the station your reflection in the window - you have a silly grin on your face - thats because you will pay alot less for LPG than for petrol.
15. treat yourself to some chocolate for considering both the environment and your pocket :y
I will add some photos but someone bought a soft top and it hasn't stopped raining yet hehe ;D

Here is what my LPG indicator looks like when the engine is turned off.

This is what it looks like when i have just turned the engine over and it is running on petrol, the amber light flashes ;P

This is what it looks like when i have had the engine on for a minute or so and its just flipped over to LPG

And this is what it looks like when i have turned the LPG off, by hitting the button in the middle

at this point the car is still running (on petrol)

Firstly, and most importantly, don't rely on the level lights... They are notoriously $hite!!! Best way is fill it right up, reset trip meter and run to empty, then you'll know roughly the mileage per tank and work on that!!!
Filling is as easy as it sounds, it's just unfortunate that you have to hold the "Dead Man's Handle" whilst filling!! If the multi-valve starts making a strange grunting noise then your's wont auto stop and it means the tank is full!
It looks like your system has a temp sensor fitted so shouldn't switch to LPG until the vaporiser is warm enough!!
