Hi all, I’m back again! :y
Back in an Omega for the time being, have bought a mates F/L MV6 that has been ticked up in a garage for the last 5 years! It has a few niggly issues which hopefully I can sort with your help! ;D
First issue is that the temp gauge doesn’t work?
Second issue is that the power steering seems very notchy and heavy at sporadic times? Could this be the pump on its way out or would it be just that it needs a flush and some new fluid?
Thanks all!

First thought
on temp gauge not working is/are wire has come off sender unit on coolant bridge or sender unit itself is fubar.Know nothing as regards steering, sorry.

Where is the sender located? Do you know?

At the back of the block underneath the plenum / scuttle :y

May be possible to check this using a torch and mirror rather than removing the plenum. For the sake of a litre of PAS fluid, might as well change it to rule it out if nothing else.
If that doesnt work I would guess a faulty pump. An electrical fault wouldnt cause notchiness afaik. It would either work or not. :-\
Good to see you back Paul. Long time no see. :y

I will take Migv6's word that it may be checkable with a torch and a mirror[I've never tried that so don't know]however if you do take off the plenum and upper part of inlet manifold then the coolant bridge will be obvious to you spanning between the heads towards the rear of the engine. The temp. sender is on the drivers side and has one wire[with a spade type connector] while on the passenger side is the coolant temp sensor[which I believe connects to the ecu?]which has a proper plug on it.
By the way I don't know where all the crossing out comes from on some of my posts?

Sometimes notchy steering can be down to the top mount bearings

even if youre able to see the temp sender, and the spade connector is on it, theres still the chance that the copper is suitably corroded after 20 ish years.
Certainly when I replaced mine I found the original was 'silted up' inside and the cars actual temp reading changed when the new one went in.
To be fair theres a ton of jobs that require the plenum off for a v6, so could be worth doing the lot in one go.
Plugs,
Plenum seals
Ht leads
Coil pack
Cleaning out the dried cruddy oil from the plenum
Ditto for the breather hoses (not strictly necessary to remove plenum, admittedly)
Coolant temp sensor
Check for potential leaks/corrosion on the bridge between cylinder banks
Possibly replace these hoses (sit above the exhaust, take a battering with extremes of temperature, a wonder they last as long as they do)
check conditon of oil cooler plate (they rot from inside out)
Thermostat
Joys of v6 ownership ;)
